Description
The Student Ambassador will play a vital role in fostering a strong partnership between the Michigan State University (MSU) College of Veterinary Medicine and Michigan Humane (MH), the state’s oldest and largest non-profit animal welfare organization.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage with fellow students, faculty, and the public while representing Michigan Humane. The primary objective of the role is to promote Michigan Humane and encourage veterinary students to apply for student opportunities and post-grad opportunities at Michigan Humane.
Responsibilities:
- Promote Michigan Humane’s mission by acting as a knowledgeable advocate for Michigan Humane’s mission and initiatives.
- Student Engagement: Actively engage with students to promote opportunities to get involved with Michigan Humane. Utilize various channels such as social media, student organizations, university events, etc.
- Student Program Promotion: Work alongside Michigan Humane’s Recruiting Team to showcase student opportunities, encourage students to apply, advertise for MH programs, and to support and answer questions for students interested in joining Michigan Humane.
- Relationship Building: Build strong relationships between MSU staff, faculty, student organizations, clubs, and students and represent Michigan Humane in a positive light. Build strong internal relationships with the Michigan Humane team.
- Prospective Talent Identification: Work closely with Michigan Humane Recruiting Team to identify prospective applicants for the summer job program, externships, and post-grad opportunities.
- Events: Organize and participate in networking events, career fairs, and recruitment sessions to establish connections with potential candidates. Closely follow MSU event schedules so MH can be well-informed of academic and event dates.
- Seek opportunities to create student engagement opportunities such as collaborating with faculty, staff, student organizations, clubs, students, etc. to organize, plan, attend, and execute networking events, workshops, tabling events, information sessions, educational programs, and more.
- Gather relevant data and feedback from events and programs to evaluate their impact and effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine
- Strong passion for animal welfare, community advocacy, and values aligning with MH.
- Leadership experience or involvement in a student organization is a plus.
- Ability to work independently with strong organization and time management skills.
- Prior involvement with Michigan Humane, such as completing an externship or participating in the summer jobs program is highly advantageous.
This position is a part-time role, and the Student Ambassador will be expected to commit approximately 10 hours per month on average.
