Fort Wayne Community School District is seeking a Student Advocate to foster a safe, inclusive school environment. You will build strong relationships with students, staff and families to promote well-being, conflict prevention, and early intervention across the school setting.

The role emphasizes preventative work, active supervision, and collaboration with teachers and administrators to support a calm, respectful learning environment and student success.

Qualifications

• Experience with relationship-based practices in school settings is preferred.
• Background in conflict resolution or behavior support is strongly preferred.
• Ability to de-escalate and resolve interpersonal tensions effectively.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration with staff and families.
• Ability to work with diverse student populations and stakeholders.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain trusting relationships with students to promote belonging and safety.
• Serve as a visible, approachable adult presence throughout the school.
• Support a positive climate by modeling respectful behavior and recognizing student success.
• Use restorative practices and de-escalation to address conflicts and involve families and staff.
• Monitor safe environments in classrooms, hallways, and common areas.
• Respond promptly to safety concerns with appropriate, least restrictive interventions.
• Assist in conflict mediation and problem-solving conversations between students.
• Maintain situational awareness and identify potential safety concerns early.
• Communicate concerns and incidents to school leadership in a timely, professional manner.
• Document incidents clearly, focusing on safety and student support outcomes.
• Participate in ongoing professional development on student engagement and trauma-informed practices.
• Support emergency preparedness and calm response during crises.
• Engage student voice and partner with students to improve climate and safety.
• Provide supervision for school events and extracurricular activities as assigned.
• Adhere to district policies and dress code; support FWCS mission and six core competencies.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
