East Side House Settlement is seeking a Student Advisor for the GWHS program in New York. You will manage a caseload of about 60–70 students, conducting attendance, academic, and social-emotional outreach, with intake interviews and referrals to services as needed.
You will collaborate with guidance counselors and teachers, maintain detailed student records, and participate in trainings and community activities. Evening and some remote work are required; DOE clearance is required.

East Side House (ESH), founded in 1891, is a 501(c) (3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. ESH has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement and through its youth education and technology programs it teaches skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent. As a community resource the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020 the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve.
The George Washington Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) is an alternative afternoon and evening program designed to meet the educational needs of high school students who are behind in credit or have adult responsibilities that make it hard to attend school during the day. Students attend YABCs part-time in the afternoon or evening to earn a high school diploma. The YABC program is designed to re-engage high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out of high school. ESH is directly responsible for the administration of each school’s Learning-to-Work Program, which enhances the school’s academic component by offering additional academic support, career and education exploration, work preparation, skills development, and internships.
Under the supervision of the LTW Program Director and Assistant Director, with latitude for independent judgment, student advisors will be responsible to perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and ability required, but not limited to:

This is a full time position. Work days/hours subject to change based on ESH’s needs, pending school schedule.
Business casual. This job operates in a school office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
The role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimal travel is expected for this position (on a need basis). Most travel will be conducted for the purpose of chaperoning trips and conducting home visits.
