Job summary

Stronghold is seeking a Welder A for work in petrochemical refinery environments and shop settings. You will perform welding using API650/651 knowledge, read blueprints, and ensure product quality. The role requires comfort with confined spaces and travel across the U.S.

Responsibilities include GTAW? no, FCAW/SMAW in 2G/3G/4G, inspection, mentoring, and safety compliance. A high school diploma or equivalent and 7+ years’ experience or NCCER certification are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Weld flat, cylindrical or irregular parts and inspect welds for specifications.

  • Weld in 2G, 3G and 4G positions and ensure pass radiography.
  • Mentor other welders and assist training as needed.
  • Follow safety, QA/QC procedures and OSHA guidelines.

Overview

Summary/ ObjectiveThe position of a Welder A is responsible for tasks related to welding in the appropriate process during a project within a client facility or in a shop environment. A Welder A will perform work as required to maximize the quality of the Company while maintaining the specified expectations of the client and ensure safe working environment while performing work and will conduct all Company business in accordance with Company policies and procedures and maintain professionalism throughout all business dealings, both internally and externally.

Responsibilities
  • Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • 1. Knowledgeable of API650 and API6512. Have working knowledge and understanding of blueprints, layouts and operating charts.
  • 3. Weld flat, cylindrical or irregular parts that may be clamped, tack-welded or otherwise positioned.
  • 4. Visually examine welds for adherence to specifications.
  • 5. Must have knowledge in the welding processes of EGW, SAW, FCAW, SMAW and the Bug-o machines.
  • 6. Must be able to fit bottom, roofs, floating roofs, shell verts, horizontal, door sheets, nozzles and inserts into industrial tank structures.
  • 7. Work (welds) must be able to pass X-rays.
  • 8. Must be able to weld in some of the processes but not all.
  • 9. Must be able to weld in the 2G, 3G and 4G position in FCAW and SMAW.
  • 10. Extensive knowledge on how to set up and run EGW and SAW (3 o’clock, goat).
  • 11. Be a mentor to other welders; assist where needed and train where needed.
  • 12. Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions.
  • 13. Operate other machine shop equipment to prepare components for welding.
  • 14. Extensive knowledge of hooking and unhooking of leads, torch hoses, and gas gases.
  • 15. Ability to work on and/or repair welding equipment (LN-25, SAW, etc.).
  • 16. Responsible for care and cleanliness of assigned equipment, workstation and/or area.
  • 17. Follow all Company Safety, Quality Control/ Quality Assurance procedures and OSHA guidelines .
  • 18. Write routine reports and correspondences.
  • 19. Add, subtract, multiply and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, pictorial or diagram form.
  • 20. Maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions.
  • 21. Attend and complete trainings as required by the Company and client.
  • 22. Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background requirements.

  • Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position will have some supervisory responsibilities.
  • Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a petrochechemical / refinery environment. Exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months. Exposure to noise, workers must wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and the use of a respirator is required. All employees will be required to be fit tested for the various respirators used as well as the ability to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT). Will be required to work in confined spaces and/or above ground in excess of 50 feet.
  • Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.The position of a Welder A can be extremely physical at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required, and for long periods of time to bend, stoop, walk, climb, squat, reach, kneel, push/pull, stand, sit, hand strength and dexterity. A Welder A will frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift more than 51 pounds. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Must be able to work at heights and be able to climb ladders and stairways and work off platforms. Move about on hands and feet, bending body downward and forward bending leg and spine- working in a bent over position. Ability to verbally communicate alarms or warnings clearly, concisely, loudly and quickly. Clearly and quickly hear or otherwise sense alarms or warning and take appropriate action, maintain equilibrium to prevent falling when moving, walking, standing, kneeling or crouching- particularly on narrow, uneven, irregular, slippery surfaces, going up and down ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles or other objects using hands, arms, feet or legs. Sensing physical attributes such as size, shape, temperature, texture or sharpness of an object by touching. Must possess foot agility and dexterity- operating pedals, foot controls, kick bars and other similar tasks that require foot or toe motion. Grasp, grip and/or apply pressure to an object with the fingers, palm, holding an object in the hand. Lift, raise or lower objects in a vertical direction, particularly heavy or bulky objects. Move objects backwards, forward, in or out in a horizontal direction, particularly heavy or bulky objects. Pulling, exerting a steady backward, downward, upward or outward force against an object- jerking, wrenching, stretching, towing, drawing, dragging or tugging objects in sustained motion. Reaching, extending the hand (s) and/or arm(s) in any direction. See, read, write and understand communication including directions, instructions and warning signs. Ability to see and distinguish colors, to visually distinguish shapes and patterns, to accurately sense distances (depth perception), to accurately see objects and detect motion and wide angles (peripheral vision).
  • Position Type/ Expected Hours of WorkThis is a project- based position. Typical days and hours of work are variable/ project dependent. Over-time work is common and may be required as job duties demand.
  • TravelTravel is expected. Extensive travel throughout U.S. and overnight stay for extended periods of time.
Qualifications

Required Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent work experience or 7+ years’ related work experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Extensive knowledge of EGW, SMAW, SAW, FCAW and other welding processes such as the Bug-o. Must have experience in the petrochemical industry.Preferred Education10+ years’ related work experience and/or training. NCCER certification. Class “A” driver’s license and a clean MVR.
