Job summary

Horrocks seeks a Structures CAD Technician to support structural engineers on heavy civil and municipal projects. You will prepare detailed construction documents and develop plans, sections, and details for vaults, walls, foundations, and other components.

You will collaborate across disciplines, maintain CAD standards, and contribute to the firm’s regional growth in transportation and structural engineering. Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation and Bentley tools is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or technical certification in Drafting, CAD Technology, or related field.
• 3–7 years of experience in structural or civil drafting preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is required or highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed structural drawings and construction documents for heavy civil and municipal projects.
• Develop plans, sections, details, and schedules for concrete vaults, culverts, storage tanks, retaining walls, foundations, and other components.
• Draft structural components for roadway, site civil, federal, and municipal projects.
• Collaborate with structural engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver PS&E contract documents.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs and preparation of cost estimates.
• Revise drawings based on engineer markups and QA/QC reviews.
• Maintain drawing standards and ensure CAD compliance.
• Coordinate with other disciplines for proper structural integration.
• Lead structures work on smaller projects and coordinate staff.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?

• Prepare detailed structural drawings and construction documents for heavy civil and municipal projects
• Develop plans, sections, details, and schedules for concrete vaults, culverts, storage tanks, retaining walls, foundations, and other structural components
• Draft structural components for roadway, site civil, federal, and municipal projects
• Collaborate with structural engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver accurate and timely PS&E contract documents
• Assist with quantity takeoffs and preparation of cost estimates
• Revise drawings based on engineer markups and internal QA/QC reviews
• Maintain drawing standards and ensure compliance with company and client CAD standards
• Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure proper integration of structural elements
• Assist in building a strong regional presence for the firm in transportation and structural engineering
• Structures lead for smaller projects, coordinating staff and design efforts

Qualifications, Skills, And Competencies

• Associate’s degree or technical certification in Drafting, CAD Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3 to 7 years of experience in structural or civil drafting preferred
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation required
• Experience with Bentley software (OpenRoads, OpenBridge, STAAD models for drafting integration) a plus
• Familiarity with structural detailing for concrete and steel components
• Understanding of civil and structural construction plans and specifications
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
• Willingness to work on projects locally or in workshare with other offices; limited travel (
