About this Role

Matrix Renewables is seeking a Structured Finance Portfolio Manager to join its US Structured Finance team based in Miami. This is a high-visibility position located at the critical intersection of finance, risk management, and renewable energy development. The successful candidate will serve as the key person responsible for maintaining the health, compliance, and risk management of Matrix Renewables' project finance and tax equity portfolio. In this role, you will monitor and manage compliance across a comprehensive portfolio of renewable energy project finance and tax equity transactions throughout the United States, with exposure to corporate-level financings and international assets. You will build and maintain substantive working relationships with lenders, tax equity investors, and multiple internal teams including finance, development, asset management, legal, environmental and social governance (ESG), and operations. You will report to the Project Finance Director (US) while collaborating closely with the Loan Management team based in Spain. This position is ideal for someone who possesses both a meticulous attention to the detailed provisions of credit agreements and a strategic understanding of portfolio-level performance and growth. Your work will be fundamental to ensuring that Matrix Renewables' renewable energy investments continue to meet all contractual obligations while identifying and mitigating emerging risks.


Responsibilities

  • Monitor compliance with loan agreements, credit facilities, hedge management, tax equity structures, and corporate financings
  • Track and report key financial and operational covenants including Debt Service Coverage Ratio (DSCR), reserve requirements, distributions, and Investment Tax Credit (ITC) insurance
  • Review financial models and forecasts to ensure compliance and identify early risk signals
  • Provide early notice of potential breach concerns through thorough reading and understanding of financial documentation
  • Manage notices and remediation plans for any issues that may occur
  • Prepare and coordinate periodic reporting packages for lenders, tax equity investors, and internal stakeholders
  • Communicate changes in budget, schedule, updates, and potential issues arising on projects with appropriate urgency
  • Manage loan disbursement requests and procedures
  • Coordinate internally on Cash Flow Available for Debt Service (CFADS) and advise on timing of operating expense payments to ensure debt service and tax equity payments can be achieved on time and per agreements
  • Monitor debt balances, repayments, letters of credit (LCs), credit facility utilization, and hedge documentation
  • Monitor tax equity distributions, capital accounts, and monetization of ITC and Production Tax Credit (PTC) proceeds under Limited Liability Company Agreements (LLCA), Minority Investor Partnership Agreements (MIPA), Equity Contribution and Capital Account Agreements (ECCA), and Tax Equity Transfer Agreements (TCTAs), and associated covenants
  • Oversee waiver, consent, amendment, and restructuring processes when required
  • Manage and track post-closing and post-waiver conditions
  • Maintain day-to-day working relationships with banks, agents, tax equity investors, hedge providers, ITC buyers, minority investors, and external advisors including appraisal, legal, technical, insurance, and market consultants
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Finance, Asset Management, Development, Legal, ESG, Operations, and Accounting) and external auditors to ensure timely delivery of information and compliance obligations
  • Support internal operational and financial reporting and maintenance of data for existing projects including financial performance, outstanding debt, compliance with covenants, and assessment of forecasts
  • Provide structured feedback to senior management and shareholders on portfolio quality, trends, limits, risks, and performance
  • Manage risks associated with debt and tax equity investments
  • Anticipate if current documentation cannot serve future financing needs
  • Support the Loan Origination and Structured Finance teams in the execution of new financings
  • Assist in financial model reviews and updates
  • Participate in the negotiation and documentation of financing agreements from a compliance and portfolio management perspective

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in project finance, structured finance, portfolio management, or infrastructure investments
  • Undergraduate degree
  • Strong exposure to renewable energy transactions, with preference for solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) experience
  • Solid understanding of project finance documentation
  • Solid understanding of covenant monitoring
  • Solid understanding of tax equity structures
  • Solid understanding of corporate debt instruments
  • Strong analytical skills with financial modeling experience highly desirable
  • Experience managing lender and investor relationships
  • Ability to identify risk early and elevate appropriately
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Proactive, hands-on, and commercially minded approach
  • Strong communication skills with ability to interact confidently with senior stakeholders
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, international environment
