Job summary

Commercial Contracting Corporation (CCC) is seeking a Structural Welding & Fabrication Technician in Orion Township, MI to produce high-quality steel components for industrial and commercial projects. The role combines MIG welding, blueprint interpretation, metal fabrication, assembly, and quality inspection in a fast-paced shop environment.

Ideal candidates have at least 2 years of welding/fabrication experience, can read shop drawings, and operate fabrication equipment safely.

  • 2+ years welding & fabrication experience
  • Experience with MIG (GMAW) welding
  • Able to read blueprints and shop drawings
  • Knowledge of fabrication tools, shop equipment, and measuring instruments
  • Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
  • Able to work independently and in a team
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG welding on structural steel and fabricated components
  • Interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and shop specifications
  • Prepare materials by measuring, marking, cutting, and fitting
  • Assemble steel components per project requirements
  • Operate fabrication equipment safely and effectively
  • Inspect welds and assemblies to verify quality standards

Position Overview

The Structural Welding & Fabrication Technician is responsible for producing high-quality fabricated steel components and assemblies used in industrial construction and commercial construction applications.

This role combines MIG welding, blueprint interpretation, metal fabrication, assembly support, and quality inspection responsibilities within a fast-paced fabrication environment. Successful candidates are dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to producing quality work while maintaining a safe workplace.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on structural steel and fabricated components
  • Interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and shop specifications
  • Prepare materials through measuring, marking, cutting, and fitting operations
  • Assemble steel components according to project requirements
  • Operate fabrication equipment and machinery safely and effectively
  • Inspect completed welds and fabricated assemblies to verify quality standards
  • Support production schedules while maintaining workmanship expectations
  • Utilize overhead cranes, rigging equipment, and forklifts as required
  • Assist with product staging, testing, packaging, and shipment preparation
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area
  • Follow established company safety procedures and quality standards
  • Collaborate with team members to improve efficiency and production outcomes
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum two years of welding and fabrication experience
  • Experience performing MIG (GMAW) welding
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings
  • Knowledge of fabrication tools, shop equipment, and measuring instruments
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a production team
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS Welding Certification
  • Experience with structural steel fabrication
  • Prior experience building custom equipment, machinery, or industrial components
  • Experience operating cranes, forklifts, or material handling equipment
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, industrial construction, or commercial construction environments
Work Environment

This position is based in a fabrication and manufacturing facility and may include:

  • Exposure to welding fumes, dust, sparks, and industrial equipment
  • Moderate to high noise levels
  • Working around moving machinery and material‑handling systems
  • Overtime opportunities during peak production periods
  • Occasional outdoor work related to loading, staging, or material movement
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and move throughout the shop for extended periods
  • Ability to safely lift, position, and move fabrication materials
  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and work in various physical positions
  • Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
