We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Welding department, located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are seeking a Structural Welder J-1 (Handyman). The work schedule is 0600 to 1445 with a 45-minute lunch.

Shift: All shifts
Security Clearance: No clearance required

Essential Functions and Purpose
The Structural Welder should be proficient in welding using SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW processes.

Qualifications (Education/Training):
High School Diploma or GED plus 2 years of directly related shipbuilding/ship repair experience.

Experience Requirements:

Journeyperson 4 (Welder):
Knowledge of welding on different base metals (HY-80 & HY-100), proficiency in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, ability to weld steel, aluminum, copper-nickel, stainless steel, read weld gauges, and use hand tools. Some supervision guidance required.
Knowledge of standard item 1689 and 5S guidelines.

Journeyperson 3 (Welder):
Similar welding skills as Journeyperson 4, with pipe welding experience and torch setup knowledge.

Journeyperson 2 (Welder):
Welding skills in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, torch setup, gauge reading, supervision required.

Journeyperson 1 (Welder):
Basic welding skills, torch setup, gauge reading, close supervision, knowledge of weld symbols.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to carry, lift, walk, climb, pull, crawl, sit, crouch, stand, kneel, and perform visual and hearing tasks as specified. Must be able to go on vessels.
