Job summary

Whirlwind Steel in Georgia is seeking a structural welder to join our fabrication team. The role will involve welding parts using FCAW, ensuring welds pass visual tests per AWS D1.1, and achieving Complete Joint Penetration to pass ultrasonic testing.

Responsibilities include interpreting shop drawings, setting amperage/voltage, and welding in multiple positions. The job emphasizes safety, productivity, and teamwork in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a current welding certification.
• Minimum 2 years welding experience.
• Experience operating an overhead crane.
• Ability to read welding detail drawings.
• Must be able to apply an acceptable weld to pass visual test per AWS D1.1.
• Must be able to apply a Complete Joint Penetration weld to pass Ultrasonic test per AWS D1.1.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret shop details to determine welding requirements.
• Adjust welding unit amperage and voltage per Whirlwind Standard.
• Weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions using FCAW.
• Visually examine welds for bead size and specifications.
• Meet daily production goals while maintaining safety and quality.
• Collaborate with team, supervisors, and QC personnel to resolve issues.
