Job summary

Whirlwind Steel is seeking a structural welder to join our fabrication team in Georgia. The role focuses on FCAW welding, ensuring joints meet AWS D1.1 visual and ultrasonic criteria, and passing certification tests.

You will read shop drawings, set amperage/voltage per our standards, and perform welds in multiple orientations while maintaining quality and safety. Team collaboration is essential for on-time production.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a current welding certification.
• Minimum 2 years welding experience.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret welding detail drawings.
• Must be able to apply an acceptable weld to pass visual test per AWS D1.1.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret shop details to determine welding requirements.
• Adjust welding unit amperage/voltage per Whirlwind Standard.
• Weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions using FCAW.
• Visual examine welds for bead size and specifications.
• Back gouge to ensure Complete Joint Penetration Welds pass ultrasonic test.
• Weld to pass visual inspection per AWS D1.1.
• Adhere to safety protocols and report safety issues.
• Collaborate with team to ensure smooth production.
• Strive to maximize productivity and meet daily goals.
