Job summary

Acadian Contractors, Inc. in Abbeville, LA, is seeking a 3G/4G Structural Welder to join a shop-based production team.

You will perform FCAW welds in 3G and 4G positions, ensure code-quality welds, read weld maps, and follow WPS and AWS D1.1 standards to support fabrication projects. Requirements include current AWS D1.1 qualification for 3G and 4G, at least 2 years of FCAW experience in production, ability to interpret drawings, and commitment to safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Current AWS D1.1 Structural Welding qualification - 3G (groove, FCAW) at minimum.
• Current AWS D1.1 Structural Welding qualification - 4G (groove, FCAW) required within 90 days of hire if not held at time of offer.
• Minimum 2 years of FCAW structural welding experience in a production fabrication environment.
• Ability to read weld symbols per AWS A2.4 and interpret fabrication drawings and weld maps.
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol screen.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Produce groove welds in 3G (vertical) and 4G (overhead) positions on structural steel plate and built-up members using FCAW per applicable WPS.
• Maintain machine setup - verify voltage, amperage, wire feed speed, and shielding gas flow rate against the WPS.
• Produce fillet welds in all positions on structural connections and base plates as dimensioned on drawings.
• Inspect welds and ensure compliance with AWS D1.1 visual criteria before QC sign-off.
• Read fabrication drawings and weld maps to identify joint type, size, and position requirements.
• Mentor Welder Helpers and Apprentice Welders in proper technique and WPS requirements.
