Job summary

Bowman Steel Fabrication and Erection is seeking a skilled Structural Welder to support steel erection across commercial and industrial projects. You will weld structural connections safely and to project specs, collaborating with foremen and field crews to meet quality, safety, and schedule goals.

Responsibilities include reading drawings, following WPS and AWS D1.1, and maintaining equipment and work areas. Travel to job sites and out-of-state assignments may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years structural welding experience preferred.
• Experience with FCAW and SMAW welding processes.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 structural welding standards.
• Job-site safety procedures and steel erection operations knowledge.

Job description

Bowman Steel is seeking an experienced Structural Welder to support steel erection activities across commercial and industrial structural steel projects. This role is critical to ensuring structural connections are welded safely, accurately, and in accordance with project specifications and applicable welding standards.

As a Structural Welder, you will work closely with foremen, superintendents, and field crews to complete structural welds while maintaining Bowman Steel’s expectations for quality, safety, and productivity.

What You’ll Do

Daily Responsibilities Include:

• Perform structural welding on beams, columns, connections, braces, plates, and other steel components.
• Complete welds using FCAW and SMAW processes in accordance with project requirements.
• Follow approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and applicable AWS D1.1 standards.
• Read and interpret structural drawings, welding symbols, erection plans, and project specifications.
• Prepare steel surfaces and joints for welding, including grinding, cleaning, fitting, and alignment.
• Inspect completed welds for quality and correct deficiencies when required.
• Work closely with foremen, superintendents, and other field employees to maintain project schedules.
• Operate welding machines, grinders, torches, and related tools safely and efficiently.
• Follow fall protection, PPE, and all company/job-site safety requirements.
• Maintain welding equipment and report damaged or defective equipment.
• Assist with fitting, layout, and other steel erection activities as needed.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Promote a quality-first and safety-driven job-site culture.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of structural welding experience preferred.
• Welding Skills:
  • Experience with FCAW and SMAW welding processes
  • Knowledge of structural steel welding practices
  • Ability to produce welds that meet AWS D1.1 requirements
• Industry Knowledge:
  • Structural steel erection experience preferred
  • Familiarity with job-site safety procedures and steel erection operations
• Technical Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and welding symbols
  • Knowledge of measurements, angles, fit-up, and joint preparation
  • Ability to safely operate grinders, cutting torches, and welding equipment
• Certifications: Current welding certifications preferred; candidates may be required to complete a welding test as part of the hiring process.
• Safety: OSHA 10 preferred.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding work and work at heights as required.
• Travel: Willingness to travel to job sites and work out of state as required.
