Job summary

Matrix Service, Inc. in Emporia, VA is seeking a focused welder to perform welding and grinding per job specifications, plan layouts, and work with supervision toward precise results.

The role requires adherence to safety policies and the ability to read and follow complex instructions. Responsibilities include fabricating quality welds, assisting with fit-up, post-weld cleanup and inspections, and frequent communication with the Field Foreman.

Qualifications

  • Experience in fabrication environment and ability to pass weld tests.
  • Pass drug testing and background screening.
  • Possess or pass Basic Safety Council Courses.
  • TWIC card required.
  • Site may require fire retardant clothing.
  • Willing to travel/relocate and work overtime.

  • Perform or assist with fit-up and preparation of welds.

Description

Summary: Responsible for performing welding and grinding functions per job specifications. Selects equipment and plans layout and assembly of welding. Works closely and interacts with supervision. Works with precise limits and standards of accuracy.

  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS + EXPERIENCE

Prior related experience and/or training in a fabrication environment must be able to pass the following weld tests.

Carbon Steel Plate Test
  • SMAW E6010 (5P) 3G, Downhill
  • SMAW E7018 – 2G, 3G, 4G
Qualifications
  • Must obtain and maintain an active status within the drug testing program and pass background screening.
  • Must possess or be able to pass the Basic Safety Council Class Courses
  • Must complete the Matrix Service Basic Safety training and site-specific training.
  • Must possess a valid TWIC card.
  • Site may require fire retardant clothing.
  • Maintain clean shaven and/or free of facial hair so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly. (Site Specific)
  • Must be willing to frequently travel/relocate.
  • Must be willing to work frequent overtime.
Physical Requirements
  • Must have the ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able and willing to work at elevated heights from Ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, work platforms, etc.
  • Work will include pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 60 pounds, such as raw or fabricated material, equipment or tools.Heavyliftingwilloftenberequiredtoperformtasks.
  • Mustbeabletokneel,squat,andclimb. Work will include frequent bending, kneeling, crouching and stooping and occasional climbing onto equipment and/or trailers. Work involves standing and/or walking for extended periods of time, up to a minimum of 8-10 hours per day
  • Must be able to perform required duties for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to perform tasks in hot and cold temperatures.
  • The essential job functions and duties outlined in this position are considered safety sensitive
