Job summary

Matrix Service is seeking a skilled welder to perform welding and grinding per job specifications on field projects. The role requires selecting equipment, planning layout, and maintaining strict quality and safety standards.

The ideal candidate has training and experience in FCAW and SMAW welding, the ability to travel/relocate, and a commitment to continuous safety training. Full-time position with competitive benefits and opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• Prior related experience and/or training in a fabrication environment must be able to pass the following weld tests.
• Tests include FCAW and SMAW positions across multiple joints.
• Must obtain and maintain safety and site training as required.

Job description

Summary

Responsible for performing welding and grinding functions per job specifications. Selects equipment and plans layout and assembly of welding. Works closely and interacts with supervision. Works with precise limits and standards of accuracy.

Typical Responsibilities and Duties

• Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values."
• Represents the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company's "Code of Business Conduct and Ethics."
• Efficiently produce quality welds.
• Perform or assist with fit-up and preparation of welds.
• Perform or assist with post weld cleanup, inspection, and repair.
• Communicate regularly with the Field Foreman with regard to issues and concerns on the job site.
• Comply with all Matrix safety policies and programs.
• Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications + Experience

Prior related experience and/or training in a fabrication environment must be able to pass the following weld tests.

Carbon Steel Plate Test

• FCAW (Flux Core) - 2G, 3G, 4G
• SMAW E6010 (5P) 3G, Downhill
• SMAW E7018 - 2G, 3G, 4G

Qualifications

• Must obtain and maintain an active status within the drug testing program and pass background screening.
• Must possess or be able to pass the Basic Safety Council Class Courses
• Must complete the Matrix Service Basic Safety training and site‑specific training.
• Must possess a valid TWIC card.
• Site may require fire retardant clothing.
• Maintain clean shaven and/or free of facial hair so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly. (Site Specific)
• Must be willing to frequently travel/relocate.
• Must be willing to work frequent overtime.

Physical Requirements

• Must have the ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
• Must be able and willing to work at elevated heights from ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, work platforms, etc.
• Work will include pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 60 pounds, such as raw or fabricated material, equipment or tools. Heavy lifting will often be required to perform tasks.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, and climb. Work will include frequent bending, kneeling, crouching and stooping and occasional climbing onto equipment and/or trailers. Work involves standing and/or walking for extended periods of time, up to a minimum of 8‑10 hours per day.
• Must be able to perform required duties for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to perform tasks in hot and cold temperatures.
• The essential job functions and duties outlined in this position are considered safety sensitive.
