Job summary

The University of New Mexico seeks a Structural Tech 2 to join Facility Services. This hands-on role covers carpentry and construction tasks across classrooms, labs, offices, and public spaces, with work that is visible and impactful within UNM's campus.

You'll read blueprints, install cabinetry, doors, and hardware, perform restoration of wood, and help maintain safe, functional spaces in the Health Sciences Center area.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs, repairs, and installs carpentry elements including moldings, laminates, trim, and window/door systems.
  • Constructs and installs custom cabinetry.
  • Installs, repairs, or maintains door openers/closers and door hardware.
  • Installs glass doors, door hardware and metal framing.
  • Performs restoration work on wood cabinets, flooring, and furniture.
  • Reads and interprets structural blueprints, field drawings, and project layouts.
  • Performs repairs or installation of frame walls, sheetrock, insulation, flooring, painting, and other carpentry work.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes safety and environmental practices.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Facility Services consists of Building & Landscape Services, Facilities Design & Construction (FDC), Facilities Customer Services, Facilities Support Services, and Technical Services and is responsible for maintaining more than 10 million square feet of facilities and 680 acres of open space.

Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Structural Tech 2, you’ll be at the heart of our facilities team, performing a wide range of carpentry and structural tasks that keep our spaces functional, beautiful, and safe. Your work will include:

  • 1. Constructs, repairs, and/or installs carpentry elements including moldings, laminates, trim, and window and door systems.
  • 2. Constructs and installs custom cabinetry.
  • 3. Installs, repairs, or maintains door openers/closers and door hardware.
  • 4. Installs glass doors, door hardware and metal framing.
  • 5. Performs restoration work on wood cabinets, flooring, and furniture.
  • 6. Reads and interprets structural blueprints, field drawings, and project layouts.
  • 7. May perform other tasks to include repairs or installation of frame walls, sheetrock, insulation, flooring, painting, and other carpentry work.
  • 8. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • 9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Please Note:

This position requires you to work in the Health Sciences Center (HSC) area of UNM. This means you will be working in medical laboratory research, medical clinical, and medical academic spaces. These HSC environments may require the donning of medically approved personal protective equipment (PPE).

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
