Socket.dev is seeking a Structural Steel Quality Technician for a contract-to-hire role on 1st shift. Starting pay is $32.00/hour, with higher pay possible based on experience.

This hands-on shop-floor position monitors workmanship, materials, welding, and coatings to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards. You will inspect components, verify adherence to AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards, read fabrication drawings, and record results while supporting welder

Qualifications

• 2+ years of structural steel fabrication experience.
• Ability to read fabrication drawings and specifications.
• Experience with AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC.

Responsibilities

• Inspect structural steel and fabricated components for quality and specification compliance.
• Verify work meets AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.
• Check incoming materials, parts, and consumables for conformance.
• Record inspection results and maintain quality documents and logs.
• Use and maintain inspection equipment and welding-related tools.
• Calibrate welding equipment and quality inspection tools as needed.
• Assist with welder qualification testing and certification.
• Support training involving welding, fitting, and quality requirements.
• Maintain drawing control and other quality processes.
• Work with production and management to identify and correct quality issues.
• Participate in continuous improvement and training activities.
• Promote safe work practices throughout the facility.

Position Summary

We are looking for a Quality Control Inspector with structural steel fabrication experience to monitor workmanship, materials, welding, and coatings for compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

This is a hands-on shop-floor position in an active, non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment. The role involves limited office work and regular standing, walking, and material inspections.

Requirements

• 2+ years of structural steel fabrication experience
• Quality control, inspection, or manufacturing experience
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC
• Ability to read fabrication drawings and specifications
• Experience using inspection tools such as:
  • Fillet weld gauges
  • V-WAC gauges
  • Squares
  • Tape measures
  • Other standard inspection equipment
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety

Preferred Qualifications

• Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
• Experience with Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), or Penetrant Testing (PT)
• Certifications related to structural steel fabrication, bolting, coatings, or welding inspection
• Previous steel manufacturing experience

Work Environment

• Primarily shop-floor based with limited office work
• Non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility
• Regular standing, walking, and inspection of materials
• Exposure to varying temperatures
