Job summary

Qualdoc is seeking a Structural Steel Quality Inspector for 1st shift on a contract-to-hire basis. The role focuses on inspecting structural steel components, verifying welds, materials, coatings, and finishing per project specs and industry standards.

This shop-floor position operates in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will use QC tools, document results, support welder qualification, and contribute to continuous improvement while promoting safe work

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of structural steel fabrication QC/inspection.
• Ability to read fabrication drawings and specifications.
• Familiar with AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.
• Proficient with inspection tools such as gauges, squares, tapes.
• Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Inspect structural steel components throughout fabrication process.

Structural Steel Quality Inspector - 1st Shift

Job Type: Contract-to-Hire

Shift: 1st Shift

Starting Pay: Up to $32/hour, depending on experience

Position Summary

Seeking a Quality Inspector with hands-on structural steel fabrication experience to verify materials, welding, coatings, and finished components meet project specifications and applicable industry standards.

This is primarily a shop-floor position in an active manufacturing environment with limited office work. The facility is non-climate-controlled, so candidates should be comfortable working in varying temperatures and being on their feet throughout the day.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of structural steel components throughout the fabrication process
• Check welding, materials, and finished work against drawings, specifications, and quality requirements
• Verify compliance with AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC, and other applicable standards
• Inspect incoming materials, parts, and welding consumables
• Document inspection results and maintain QC records, logs, and related documentation
• Use and maintain inspection equipment and welding-related quality tools
• Calibrate welding equipment and quality inspection instruments as required
• Support welder qualification and certification activities
• Assist with training involving welding, fitting, and quality requirements
• Maintain drawing control and other QC processes
• Work with production and management to identify and correct quality issues
• Participate in continuous improvement and company training programs
• Promote safe work practices throughout the fabrication facility

Required Qualifications

• At least 2 years of structural steel fabrication experience
• Previous experience in quality control, inspection, or manufacturing
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications
• Experience using inspection tools such as:
  • Fillet weld gauges
  • V-WAC gauges
  • Squares
  • Tape measures
  • Other standard QC inspection equipment
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety

Preferred Qualifications

• Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
• Experience with nondestructive testing methods, including:
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
  • Penetrant Testing (PT)
• Additional certifications in structural steel fabrication, bolting, coatings, or welding inspection
• Previous experience in a steel manufacturing or fabrication environment

Work Environment

• Primarily performed on the production floor
• Limited office work
• Non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility
• Regular standing, walking, and inspection of steel materials throughout the workday
