Job summary

Pennoni has an immediate opening for a Structural Steel Inspector to provide field inspection during the rehabilitation of a bridge in Charleston, WV. This position involves inspection of field repairs and coating of superstructure components.

The candidate should have 4–7 years of structural steel inspection experience, field-environment work experience, and knowledge of AASHTO/AWS D1.5. Travel and overtime may be required as projects demand.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4-7 years structural steel inspection experience.
• Experience working in field environments.
• Ability to work from manlifts and elevated access platforms.
• Knowledge of AASHTO/AWS D1.5 requirements.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of structural steel welding, and coatings
• Verify compliance with drawings, WPS/PQRs, and welder certifications
• Ensure adherence to applicable codes and standards, including AASHTO/AWS D1.5 and WestVirginia Depart of Transportation specifications
• Monitor welding, bolting, and coating
• Witness and document NDT activities
• Identify and report non-conformances
• Prepare detailed daily reports
• Coordinate with field representatives, contractors, and project teams
• Provide updates to clients, and internal project teams

Job Responsibilities

• Verify compliance with drawings, WPS/PQRs, and welder certifications
• Ensure adherence to applicable codes and standards, including AASHTO/AWS D1.5 and WestVirginia Depart of Transportation specifications
• Monitor welding, bolting, and coating
• Witness and document NDT activities
• Identify and report non-conformances
• Prepare detailed daily reports
• Coordinate with field representatives, contractors, and project teams

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
• NDT certifications (UT, MT, RT film interpretation)
• Coating inspection experience (AMPP/NACE/SSPC)
• Bolting inspection experience

Work Environment

Work is primarily in the field, accessing the structure from manlifts and elevated platforms. Overtime or weekend work may be required. Travel reimbursement is generally in accordance with GSA guidelines or contract requirements.
