Job summary

Pennoni has an immediate opening for structural steel Inspectors to provide field inspection during the rehabilitation of a bridge in Charleston WV. This position involves inspection of field repairs and coating of superstructure components.

The role requires inspection of welding and coatings, verification against drawings and WPS/PQRs, and adherence to AASHTO/AWS D1.5 and WV DOT specs. Expect field work from manlifts with regular reporting and coordination with project teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4–7 years of structural steel inspection experience.
• Experience working in field environments.
• Ability to work from manlifts and elevated platforms.
• Knowledge of AASHTO/AWS D1.5 requirements.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of structural steel welding, and coatings
• Verify compliance with drawings, WPS/PQRs, and welder certifications
• Ensure adherence to applicable codes and standards, including AASHTO/AWS D1.5 and West Virginia Depart of Transportation specifications
• Monitor welding, bolting, and coating
• Witness and document NDT activities
• Identify and report non-conformances
• Prepare detailed daily reports
• Coordinate with field representatives, contractors, and project teams
• Provide updates to clients, and internal project teams

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 4-7 years structural steel inspection experience
• Experience working in the field environments
• Ability to work from manlifts and elevated access platforms.
• Knowledge of AASHTO/AWS D1.5 requirements
• Strong documentation and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
• NDT certifications (UT, MT, RT film interpretation)
• Coating inspection experience (AMPP/NACE/SSPC)
• Bolting inspection experience

Work Environment

Work is primarily in the field, accessing the structure from manlifts and elevated platforms. Overtime or weekend work may be required. Travel reimbursement is generally in accordance with GSA guidelines or contract requirements.
