Job summary

Kundlas Consulting Group LLC is seeking a Structural Steel Inspector to support MTA/NYCT projects. You will inspect structural steel members, review drawings, and witness welding, NDT, and related testing to ensure compliance with project specs and industry standards.

Requires at least five years in structural steel inspections, AWS Welding Inspector certification, ASNT Level II/III or equivalent NDT certification, and ability to read engineering drawings.

• Verify compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
• Prepare inspection reports and support acceptance decisions.
• Inspect other steel materials as assigned.

Salary Range: $128,947.37 To $150,438.60 Annually

About the Role

The Structural Steel Inspector will inspect structural steel members and fabricated steel components used in MTA/NYCT construction projects. This role requires experience with structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, non-destructive testing, and applicable steel industry standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of experience in structural steel inspections, associated inspections, or metallurgical inspections.
• Current AWS Welding Inspector certification.
• Current ASNT Level II or III certification, or applicable NDT certification, as required.
• Working knowledge of non-destructive testing techniques for steel.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, specifications, and construction contract documents.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's degree in mechanical engineering, structural engineering, physical science, or a related field.
• Experience inspecting columns, trusses, beams, welded steel pieces, wheels, axles, brake shoes, and other steel materials.
• Knowledge of AREMA, ASTM, ASME, SAE, AWS, MIL, and Authority specifications.

• Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications provided by the Authority.
• Perform or witness inspections using NDT methods such as radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and liquid dye penetrant testing.
• Verify compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
• Inspect other steel materials as assigned.
• Prepare inspection reports and support acceptance or rejection recommendations.
