Job summary

George Steel is seeking an Estimator to manage the initial phase of the project lifecycle by producing accurate, timely cost estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection. You will quantify materials, calculate labor hours, and solicit pricing from suppliers and subcontractors to keep bids competitive and aligned with our fabrication capabilities.

In a fast-moving bid environment, you will collaborate with Sales, Project Management, and Production to assess one to three bids weekly,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
• 3-5 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, estimating, detailing, or related manufacturing industry.
• Familiarity with AISC and AWS standards.
• Experience with Tekla PowerFab or similar ERP/Estimating software is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Examine drawings, specifications, and addenda to determine full scope of work.
• Perform quantity take-offs of structural steel, plates, and miscellaneous metals.
• Estimate fabrication and erection labor hours based on project complexity.
• Solicit quotes from suppliers/subcontractors including erection contractors & steel detailing providers.
• Evaluate vendor quotes for scope, pricing, and alignment with specs.
• Compile cost data into a formal proposal and define scope inclusions/exclusions.
• Identify project risks and adjust pricing accordingly.
• Assist in transitioning estimates to working budgets post-award.
