Job summary

Blueprint Search Group seeks an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive estimates for structural steel fabrication projects. You will review drawings, perform material takeoffs, and develop pricing for labor, materials, and fabrication while evaluating subcontractor bids.

You will collaborate with project managers, engineers, detailers, shop personnel and suppliers to ensure bids reflect current market costs and project requirements, identifying risks and gaps

Qualifications

• 3+ years of structural steel or metal fabrication estimating experience.
• Strong ability to read structural drawings and specifications.
• Experience with material takeoffs and labor/material pricing.
• Familiarity with estimating software like Bluebeam or Tekla is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review structural drawings, specifications, and bid documents
• Perform material and quantity takeoffs for structural steel and miscellaneous metals
• Estimate material, labor, fabrication, equipment, freight, and subcontractor costs
• Develop pricing for beams, columns, joists, trusses, decking, stairs, railings, plate work, and miscellaneous steel
• Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, conflicts, and project risks
• Prepare competitive bids, proposals, and change-order pricing
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, detailers, shop personnel, and vendors

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of steel fabrication, construction drawings, material takeoffs, and labor/material pricing.

Key Responsibilities

• Review structural drawings, specifications, and bid documents
• Perform material and quantity takeoffs for structural steel and miscellaneous metals
• Estimate material, labor, fabrication, equipment, freight, and subcontractor costs
• Develop pricing for beams, columns, joists, trusses, decking, stairs, railings, plate work, and miscellaneous steel
• Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, conflicts, and project risks
• Prepare competitive bids, proposals, and change-order pricing
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, detailers, shop personnel, and vendors

Qualifications

• 3+ years of structural steel, miscellaneous metals, or metal fabrication estimating experience
• Strong ability to read structural drawings and specifications
• Knowledge of structural steel shapes, fabrication processes, and construction methods
• Experience with material takeoffs and labor/material pricing
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Bluebeam, Tekla, or similar estimating/detailing software experience is a plus

Preferred:

Experience working for a structural steel fabricator, steel erector, miscellaneous metals contractor, or commercial/industrial steel contractor. Hands-on knowledge of steel fabrication operations is highly valued.
