About RW

RW Consulting Engineers, Inc. is a structural engineering firm delivering safe, resilient, and innovative structures across California. Our practice centers on public K-12 and community college projects under the jurisdiction of the Division of the State Architect (DSA), complemented by healthcare, residential, commercial, and parks and recreation work. Architects, contractors, and school districts rely on us as a collaborative partner for innovative, cost-effective solutions.

We are a boutique firm of eight engineers, the majority of whom are licensed civil or structural engineers.

The Role

We are seeking a Structural Project Manager to join our West Sacramento office. You will lead structural design on multiple projects, direct the engineers supporting you, and serve as a trusted point of contact for our clients.

Our team works in a single open office with direct, daily access to your colleagues and firm leadership. Our goal is to create an open environment in which questions are resolved quickly and decisions are made together. You will have the autonomy to manage your work, with the support of an experienced team.

As an RWCE team member, we encourage you to provide feedback and make any suggestions that may improve project workflow and deliverables. If you have an idea, we want to hear it.

What You Will Do
  • Lead structural analysis, design, and documentation for multiple concurrent projects
  • Direct, review, and mentor design engineers
  • Guide projects through DSA and HCAI review, from submittal to approval
  • Serve as a primary contact for architects, contractors, and school districts
  • Collaborate with the principals on proposals, fees, schedules, and staffing
  • Oversee construction administration, including shop drawing review, RFI responses, and site observations
  • Perform quality assurance reviews to uphold the highest standards of safety and design excellence
What you bring
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or architectural engineering required
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 5-10 years of structural engineering experience in building design, including project leadership
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license, or active pursuit of one, preferred
  • Experience with DSA or HCAI projects preferred
  • Design experience across wood, steel, concrete, and masonry
  • Competency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam, and in RISA and Excel for structural analysis
  • Strong communication skills with clients and project teams
  • Ability to work on-site in West Sacramento and travel to job sites as needed
Why RW
  • Autonomy with support. Manage your projects with independence, backed by principals who are readily available for collaboration.
  • Efficient decision-making. An open office and direct communication, without silos or bureaucracy.
  • Specialized expertise. Deepen your DSA and HCAI experience at a firm built around that work, with a steady base of public school projects.
  • Variety. A broad range of materials, structural systems, and building types within one office.
  • Room to innovate. As a boutique firm, we invest in innovation and encourage our engineers to develop tools that improve efficiency and the quality of our work.
  • Room to grow. Opportunities for advancement as the firm continues to grow.

Your well-being is our priority.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance reimbursement
  • SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with a 3% employer match
  • Discretionary, merit-based year-end bonuses
  • 18 days of paid time off, 6 days of paid sick time, and 8 paid holidays
  • Paid overtime at normal salary rate.
  • Learning budget for courses, certifications, and workshops
  • Team retreats and events
