STRUCTURAL ENGINEER – DAMS & WATERFRONT

You will join our Dams Group

As our new Structural Engineer in the Dams Group, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary staff and self-perform structural design, including support for structural investigations, analysis, designs, and construction phase engineering related to Dam Safety, waterfront improvements or redevelopment, and other heavy civil works projects. Assignments include writing inspection/investigation reports, performing stress and stability analyses, developing design concepts for concrete, steel, and wood members/structures, and preparing final structural details, plans, and specifications.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Evaluating and analyzing dams, intakes, outlet works, and other hydraulic conveyance and appurtenant structures; building structures such as pump houses, valve chambers, operational/control buildings, powerhouse equipment, and other industrial features; waterfront structures and bulkheads; concrete and steel earth retaining structures; cofferdams and shoring; pile caps; and shallow and mat foundations.
  • Conducting structural inspections and field activities at various project sites, including dams, appurtenant structures, waterfront structures, culverts, conveyance structures, and light industrial buildings.
  • Compiling data and developing reports on inspections, design basis, data/results presentation, and analysis summaries for design reports.
  • Assisting in developing design concepts, criteria, analysis and design methodologies, alternative evaluations, and constructability reviews.
  • Preparing detailed design calculations, engineering reports, construction plans, and specifications for complex structures; conducting QA/QC and value engineering reviews.
  • Engaging with technical societies to stay current with standards, practices, and emerging technologies.

Your starting point for growth

  • BSc in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (or on track for licensure)
  • 5+ years of experience in structural design, including analysis and design of reinforced concrete, steel frame structures, bulkheads, piers, cofferdams, and shoring systems
  • Knowledge of national and industrial design codes, standards, and best practices
  • Experience with Excel, CAD, and basic engineering analysis software

Preferred experience includes:

  • Design of gravity dams, retaining walls, gatehouses, outlet works, and hydraulic structures
  • Post-tensioned anchor systems/structures
  • Familiarity with dam and levee safety guidelines from agencies like US Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, FERC
  • Experience with STAAD PRO, GT STRUDL, Mathcad, Enercalc, VBA, Matlab or similar software
