Job summary

Gresham Smith in Nashville, TN seeks a Structural Project Engineer to join the Building Engineering team. You will support Business Development and serve as the primary technical representative in proposals for industrial clients, preparing professional proposals and communicating complex issues clearly.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree with a Structural focus, 5+ years of experience (up to 10 preferred), and a P.E. license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of job-related experience; up to 10 years preferred.
  • Active P.E. licensure; S.E. licensure preferred.
  • Experience in design with structural steel, concrete, masonry; wind and seismic design.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate structural engineering work.
  • Prepare engineering reports, plans and specifications for major projects.
  • Design and produce engineering drawings; check and revise drawings.

We are looking for a Structural Project Engineerto join our Building Engineering team with experienceworking on large industrialprojects. The position requires the ability to help support the firm’s Business Development Principals as well as being the primary technical representative for the firm in the proposing and securing consulting services that support industrial clients. The position will require the assistance and/or taking the lead in preparing professional proposals for structural consulting services for potential projects. The strong ability to concisely convey technical issues and related service offerings to clients, in a manner that secures their confidence, is a must.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Bachelor's or Graduate degree inCivilEngineering with a focus in Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of job-related experience required. Prefer up to 10 years of structural design and consulting experience. Project Management or Operational experience a plus.
  • Experienced in design with structural steel, conventional and post-tensioned concrete, masonry, high wind and seismic design.
  • Experience using various structural design software tools; i.e. RISA, RAM, Navis Manage, Tedds, RetainPro, Adapt-Building.
  • Must have P.E. licensure. S.E. license is preferred.

As a Structural Project Engineer, you will:

  • Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate structural engineering work. Conceptualize the initial structural design approach for significant projects. Mentor and lead team members while simultaneously performing the structural engineering for projects.
  • Prepare engineering reports, plans and specifications for major projects. Design and produce engineering drawings based on calculations. Check, interpret and revise engineering drawings.
  • Conceive, plan and conduct research in complex problem areas.
  • Prepare and review preliminary and final plans and technical specifications, contract documents and estimates, and make recommendations for additions, deletions and substitutions when modifications are necessary.
  • Participate in contract bidding and construction administration services.
  • Provide leadership and manage structural design job functions to designated engineers and designers and supervise their efforts in completing projects on time within budget.
  • Guide the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State and County officials and other outside agencies.
  • Coordinate projects with clients, contractors, outside consultants and firm staff.
  • Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies and others as appropriate to project. Resolve a variety of complex problems (e.g., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements).
