Job Description

GPLA, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is a leading firm in the field of structural engineering, dedicated to delivering innovative and efficient solutions for a wide range of construction projects. We are seeking a talented Structural Project Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is based in Abilene, TX and reports to the Austin office. The successful candidate will be required to work onsite daily in Abilene.

As a Structural Project Engineer, the individual will build upon their experience as a Structural Design Engineer. They will support the Project Manager in overseeing and managing projects from conceptual design through construction completion. Responsibilities include coordinating tasks, supporting decision-making, scheduling resources, and overseeing specific design and production aspects.

While the Structural Project Engineer has a lower level of responsibility compared to the Project Manager, they play a crucial role in delivering projects within budget and on time. Responsibilities include:

  1. Supervisory Responsibilities: Mentor and manage Structural Designers I & II, and Structural Design Engineers.
  2. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in managing and producing drawings, specifications, and calculations during the project’s design phase; review deliverables; manage construction administration tasks; develop structural designs and models; perform calculations for structural integrity; utilize CAD software; collaborate with team members and external stakeholders; participate in project meetings; stay updated with industry trends; monitor project costs; and provide mentorship to team members.

Required Skills and Abilities: In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards; problem-solving skills; excellent communication; organizational skills; attention to detail; teamwork and collaboration skills; adaptability; proficiency in CAD software; commitment to industry updates; interest in project management; basic financial management knowledge.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a Structural focus (Master’s preferred); PE license; six years of experience in building structural engineering.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods; travel for site visits; lift a minimum of 15 pounds.
