Job summary

HDR is seeking a Structural Intern - Buildings (Summer 2027) to contribute to building engineering projects and learn under senior engineers. You will gain hands-on experience designing and detailing structural elements for diverse facilities, supporting energy-efficient and resilient infrastructure.

Ideal candidates are currently pursuing an engineering degree, with strong problem-solving and communication skills, a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, and an interest in HDR's employee-owned

Responsibilities

  • Apply standard engineering techniques to design and detail structural elements (steel, concrete, wood, masonry) for buildings.
  • Assist senior Structural Engineers with design criteria, analytical models, calculations, and construction documents.
  • Engage with recent graduates and company leaders through mentoring and programs.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of a Structural Intern - Buildings, we'll count on you to:


  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects by applying standard engineering techniques and procedures using your knowledge of structural Engineering principles to design and detail steel, concrete, wood, and masonry elements for buildings.

  • Work under the guidance and direct supervision of senior-level Structural Engineers to assist with structural engineering tasks including development of project design criteria, analytical models, design calculations (steel, concrete, masonry, and timber), construction details and construction documents for buildings.

  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals’ programs

  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications


  • Prefer 3+ years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA

  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry

  • Preference given to local candidates


Required Qualifications


  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program

  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills

  • Basic Microsoft Office skills

  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
