Title: Structural Inspector
Reports to: Vice President of Special Inspections
Status: Non-Exempt
Locations: RALEIGH, NC; CHARLOTTE, NC; NORFOLK, VA
Educational requirements: Bachelor’s in engineering and/or Construction Management
Certifications: ICC GENERAL REQUIREMENTS, ICC REINFORCED CONCRETE, ICC STRUCTURAL MASONRY, ICC STRUCTURAL STEEL AND BOLTING, ICC STRUCTURAL WELDING, ICC MASTER OF SPECIAL INSPECTIONS, and AWS-CERTIFIED WELD INSPECTOR (any combination thereof)
This position is for a person with experience in Special Inspections requirements and observations and/or Construction Management capabilities. It does not involve performing Construction Materials Testing. The candidate should be able to read and understand construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and shop drawings. Responsibilities include field observations and inspections of structural elements, producing organized reports, managing schedules, and assisting project teams with interpretation and evaluation of field conditions and reports. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Certifications such as ICC General Requirements, Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, or Structural Steel & Bolting are preferred.
Major decisions on cost, design, schedule, and project completion are made by the Design Project Manager. The Structural Inspector provides input and suggestions and may attend meetings with contractors and clients.
Works directly with project managers and team members, with potential client contact as approved.
Experience with Special Inspections and/or Construction Administration is required.
