Job summary

Shape Steel is seeking a Structural Flux-Cored Arc Welder (AWS D1.1) in Coatesville, PA. You will weld FCAW on heavy beams and columns, ensuring code-quality results in a large, AISC-certified shop.

You will read weld symbols and WPS, perform joint prep and repairs, and coordinate with fitters and QA to keep production safe and efficient. Overtime is available and benefits accompany the role.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of structural steel welding experience.
• Hands-on FCAW proficiency.
• AWS D1.1 certification preferred.
• Ability to read weld symbols, WPS, and fabrication/shop drawings.

Responsibilities

• FCAW welding on structural beams, columns, plates, connections, and heavy assemblies.
• Produce code-quality welds to AWS D1.1 and JGM quality standards.
• Interpret weld symbols, shop drawings, and WPS.
• Perform joint prep, grinding, gouging, and weld repairs.
• Operate safely around cranes and heavy equipment.
• Coordinate with fitters, operators, foremen, and QA to maintain throughput.

Shape Your Career.Role: Structural Flux-Cored Arc Welder (AWS D1.1)Location: Coatesville, PACompensation: $22–$34/hour, commensurate with experience, skill, and certificationsSchedule: 5:00 AM start | 10-hour shifts | Overtime availableFacility: 65,000 SF AISC-certified structural steel fabrication shopA Day on the Floor5:00 AM. You clock in, pull the latest shop prints, and review the WPS for the day’s runs. Your fit-up team stages heavy beams and columns under the overhead cranes. You confirm joint prep, verify weld symbols, and begin FCAW passes—vertical, overhead, and flat as required—always to AWS D1.1 standards. A grinder at your side, carbon-arc gouger ready if a repair is needed, you manage your heat, maintain bead appearance, and self-inspect each weld before moving to the next assembly.
