Job summary

SteelCon Inc. is seeking a skilled Welder & Fabricator to fit and assemble structural steel per shop drawings. You will follow prescribed procedures, train in SteelCon's Welder & Fabricator Training Program, and work with blueprints and fixtures to ensure precise alignment and safe operations.

Expected duties include planning components, marking reference lines, aligning parts, and installing structural foundations. The role requires attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols on site.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and perform higher arithmetic computations.
• Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and managers.
• Ability to work under periodic supervision and set priorities.
• Skill in using tape measure or 1" rule.
• Maintain AWS certification on 1-inch plate in flat position for GMAW/FCAW.
• Pass fillet weld break test with GMAW.
• Pass basic welding test covering shop drawings, weld symbols, and related tests.
• Pass fitting test covering shop drawing interpretation and geometry.
• Interpret, understand, and utilize cutting lists and shop drawings.
• Operate cutting torch per AWS specifications.
• Pride in workmanship and safety, ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

• Plan, lay out, and fit metal components using blueprints or templates and tools.
• Locate and mark reference lines (center, buttock, frame).
• Align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls.
• Set, fit, and erect structural assemblies within tolerances.
• Install foundations and outfittings such as doors and brackets.
• Tack weld panels, assemblies, or brackets as needed.
• Roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates/beams with shop machinery.
