Job summary

Englobal a Gulf Island Company is seeking a Structural Fitter to assemble and fit structural metal components such as angle iron and I-beams in our Englobal Fabrication and I&E Integration Shop. The role requires reading blueprints, precise alignment, and working with torches and cutting equipment to meet AWS D1.5 tolerances.

Candidates should have 2+ years of experience in structural fitting, pass a shop test, and be able to pass drug and background checks.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in structural fitting within a fabrication environment.
• Must be able to pass a structural fitter test (45 degree cut out I Beam with torch).
• Knowledge of AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen.
• Must be able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Lay out, position, align and fit together fabricated parts of structural metal products according to blueprint and layout specifications.
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by communicating effectively with customers, coworkers, clients and supervisors.
• Perform basic crane operation and operate cutting and heating torches with accurate heat corrections.
• Produce a finished product that meets AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances and customer expectations.
• Identify potential hazards and take corrective actions as needed.
• Assist in inventory processes and other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Description

Main Purpose:

The Structural Fitter fits and assembles structural framework, components and materials such as angle iron, I-beams and other steel components within our Englobal Fabrication and Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Integration Shop.

Essential Functions:

• Lay out, position, align and fit together fabricated parts of structural metal products according to blueprint and layout specifications
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by functioning and communicating in an effective manner with customers, coworkers, clients and supervisors
• Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of area
• Work in a safe and conscientious manner
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor including but not limited to, cleaning, trash/ scrap removal and other production related jobs
• Assist in yearly audited inventory process
• Perform basic crane operation
• Properly fit mill to bear stiffeners
• Operate cutting and heating torches and perform accurate simple heat corrections
• Check camber and sweep tolerances of girders and beams with minimal assistance and be able to effectively make necessary corrections per pertinent codes and specifications
• Grind parts, torque bolts and operate mechanical and manual cutting equipment
• Produce a finished product that meets recognized standards, codes and customer expectations by maintaining quality procedures and practices within the guidelines of AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances
• Identify potential hazards and make necessary corrections
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

Requirements

Physical Requirements:

• Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing
• Turning, twisting, bending and balancing
• Pushing, pulling and reaching
• Must be able to lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50-75 pounds

Job Requirements:

Environmental Conditions:

80 to 90% of the work activities are performed indoors within our Englobal Fabrication and I&E Integration Shop. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet and dry conditions, dust, mud etc.
