Job summary

Englobal a Gulf Island Company in Houston, TX seeks a Structural Combo Fitter / Welder to assemble structural framework using angle iron, I-beams and other steel parts in our I&E Integration Shop.

You will read weld symbols from shop drawings, perform GMAW, Flux Core or Stick welding, and ensure quality per AWS D1.5. Must have 2+ years welding and fitting experience, pass tests, and work in a production environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in structural welding and fitting.
• Must pass structural fitter test (45 degree cut – I Beam).
• Must pass structural welder test (3G on 1/2" carbon steel plate, MIG & FLUX).
• Knowledge of AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

• Lay out, align and fit fabricated metal parts according to blueprint specs.
• Weld using GMAW, Flux Core and/or SMAW techniques.
• Maintain a safe, clean work environment and communicate effectively with team.
• Read shop drawings and weld symbols; correct as needed to meet specs.

Description

Main Purpose:

The Structural Combo Fitter / Welder assembles structural framework, components and materials such as angle iron, I-beams and other steel components within our Englobal Fabrication and Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Integration Shop.

Essential Functions:

• Lay out, position, align and fit together fabricated parts of structural metal products according to blueprint and layout specifications
• Use various processes including GMAW (Mig), FACW (Flux Core) and / or SMAW (Stick)
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by functioning and communicating in an effective manner with customers, coworkers, clients and supervisors
• Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of area
• Work in a safe and conscientious manner
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned by supervisor including but not limited to, cleaning, trash/ scrap removal and other production related jobs
• Assist in yearly audited inventory process
• Perform basic crane operation
• Properly fit mill to bear stiffeners
• Operate various pieces of grinding equipment for extended periods
• Operate cutting and heating torches and perform accurate simple heat corrections
• Check camber and sweep tolerances of girders and beams with minimal assistance and be able to effectively make necessary corrections per pertinent codes and specifications
• Tack weld in all positions using multiple welding processes
• Grind parts, torque bolts and operate mechanical and manual cutting equipment
• Produce a finished product that meets recognized standards, codes and customer expectations by maintaining quality procedures and practices within the guidelines of AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances
• Identify potential hazards and make necessary corrections
• Read and interpret weld symbols on shop drawings and prints and apply information accordingly
• Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

Requirements

Physical Requirements:

• Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing
• Turning, twisting, bending and balancing
• Pushing, pulling and reaching
• Must be able to lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50-75 pounds

Job Requirements:

• 2+ years experience in structural welding and fitting
• Must be able to pass a structural fitter test (45 degree cut out I Beam with torch)
• Must be able to pass a structural welder test (3G on 1/2” carbon steel plate, MIG & FLUX)
• Knowledge of AWS D1.5 fitting tolerances
• Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen
• Must be able to pass a background check

Desirable Experience, Education and Training:

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Tools, Equipment and Technology:

• Structural fitting tools, structural welding tools, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) etc.

Environmental Conditions:

80 to 90% of the work activities are performed indoors within our Englobal Fabrication and I&E Integration Shop. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet and dry conditions, dust, mud etc.
