Job summary

HDR is seeking a Structural Engineering Team Lead in Northern California. You will supervise engineers, designers, and modelers, coordinating technical delivery and project staffing to ensure on-time documents for large multidisciplinary projects.

You will serve as a technical authority in structural engineering, guiding design, development sessions, and production oversight. This role requires in-person leadership in the WC or Folsom offices and active participation in HDR’s employee-owned

  • Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and be responsible for a team of engineers, designers, and/or modelers toward technical training and development, project delivery, and workload management.
  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in structural engineering as it relates to projects, and resolve problems of greater scope and complexity.
  • Perform, plan, direct, and monitor all structural aspects of large multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with high degree of technical complexity, typically involving a large project staff.
  • Coordinate staffing and workload of staff through entire project development to complete documents on schedule.
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently.
  • Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions in conjunction with other Project Managers, appropriate technical professionals and other disciplines.
  • Assist in the responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support.
  • May function as an Assistant Project Manager and assist in responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities.
  • Lead and coordinate services with other sections; assist in marketing planning, proposals and interviews.

In the role of Structural Engineering Team Lead, we'll count on you to work with other NorCal structural team leads and under guidance of the NorCal structural business class lead to:

  • Coordinate staffing and workload of staff through entire project development to complete documents on schedule

  • Assist with administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections
  • Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews
  • Be directly involved with industrial and public clients in marketing, project production and related issues
  • Assist in ensuring that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system
  • Implement, monitor and support company policy
  • Assist in the selection, training, development and management of technical personnel
  • Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed California SE
  • Minimum of 1 year of directly supervising engineers
  • MS in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Experience with ACI 350 water containing structures design
  • Experience with OSHPD Projects
  • Experience with ASCE 41 seismic retrofit design
  • Experience with structural condition assessment, repair, and rehabilitation
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED
  • Located in Northern California and ability to work full time in person in assigned office (WC or Folsom)
