Job summary

Walker Consultants offers a full-time internship where you will assist Engineers and Project Managers on design and restoration projects. You will work with the local design team and report to the Director of Design Services, gaining hands-on experience in structural engineering and parking design.

You will learn to perform survey work, contribute to drawings and reports, and apply engineering principles with software tools. The role requires travel within the state and pays $21–$25 per hour.

Qualifications

• Enrolled as a junior/senior (or MS) in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.
• Willingness to travel for field visits within the state.
• Some experience using Revit/AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Assist Engineers and Project Managers on design and restoration projects.
• Participate in on-site survey teams to assess conditions and learn project delivery.
• Help with project document preparation including drawings and reports.

Responsibilities

• Participate in on-site survey teams of existing facilities to determine the causes and solutions of deterioration or confirm as-built conditions.
• Learn how all the project elements form a completed project.
• Take an active role in project document preparation including drawings and reports.
• Assist with the design of conventional elements of projects including: ACI load combinations, shear, and moment diagrams, calculating column loads considering load path, foundation design (spread footings, piles, pile caps, drilled piers), retaining wall design (cantilever and basement type), concrete member design (slabs, beams, columns), calculation organization and documentation.
• Use computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
• Participate in on-site condition assessment teams of existing facilities to determine the causes and solutions of deterioration or confirm as-built conditions.
• Collect data pertinent to the project design including surveys, codes, soils, and other required information.
• Visit job sites to observe construction and submit field reports to Project Managers as needed.
• Assist in reviewing shop drawings and submittals.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies

Education Requirements:

• Junior or Senior level standing (or Master's student) in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.

Preferred Coursework:

• Structural Analysis
• Reinforced Concrete
• Prestressed Concrete Structures

Other Requirements:

• Strong computer, writing, communication, and team skills are necessary.
• Willingness to travel for field visits within the state.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Some experience using Revit/AutoCAD.

$21 - $25 an hour
