Job summary

STV is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Structural Engineering (Water/Wastewater) Intern to join our Water/Wastewater team. This internship offers undergraduate and graduate students hands-on exposure to structural engineering practices while supporting design and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure.

You will work alongside licensed engineers, assist with drawings, calculations, and analyses, and participate in project meetings across design phases.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Bachelor's or Master's in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Interest in water and wastewater structural engineering.
• Familiarity with structural analysis or design software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Able to work in a collaborative, fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with structural design and analysis tasks for water and wastewater facilities under licensed engineers.
• Support development of structural plans, layouts, and design concepts.
• Help prepare drawings, sketches, and calculations for construction documents.
• Conduct research on design options, codes, and standards for water/wastewater structures.
• Assist with basic calculations such as heights, weights, concrete quantities, and equipment fit-up.
• Support cost estimating, including take-offs and vendor information gathering.
• Review shop drawings and submittals with oversight.
• Participate in project meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
• Assist with field observations and documentation of conditions or progress.
• Use computer-assisted engineering and design software to support documentation and analysis.

STV is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Structural Engineering (Water/Wastewater) Intern to join our Water/Wastewater team. This internship offers an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate-level students to work alongside experienced structural engineers and contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Interns will gain hands‑on exposure to structural engineering practices while supporting high‑quality projects throughout various phases of design and construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with structural design and analysis tasks for water and wastewater facilities under the guidance of licensed engineers.
• Support the development of structural plans, layouts, and design concepts.
• Help prepare drawings, sketches, and calculations for incorporation into construction documents.
• Conduct research on design options, codes, and standards applicable to water and wastewater structures.
• Assist with basic calculations such as structure heights and weights, concrete quantities, and equipment fit‑up.
• Support cost estimating efforts, including quantity take‑offs and gathering vendor information.
• Review shop drawings and technical submittals with oversight from senior staff.
• Participate in project meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
• Assist with field observations and documentation of existing conditions or construction progress, as needed.
• Use computer‑assisted engineering and design software to support project documentation and analysis.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong interest in structural engineering within the water and wastewater industry.
• Familiarity with structural analysis or design software is a plus (e.g., finite element modeling tools, Autodesk platforms).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑oriented, fast‑paced environment.

Compensation Range

$47,959.00 - $54,498.00
