Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join the Federal Buildings team in Arlington, VA. You will support analyses and designs for critical projects, learning from professional engineers and designers in a mentored environment.

You will gain exposure to coordination, CAD software, data collection, and modeling, building on your structural coursework while embracing Jacobs’ culture of collaboration, learning, and inclusion. Hybrid work is available.

Qualifications

• Citizenship in United States; CPT work authorization not eligible.
• Currently enrolled in a Civil or Architectural Engineering degree with emphasis on Structural Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Completion of at least 3 years of collegiate coursework before internship start.
• Working knowledge of MS Office programs, specifically Excel.
• Live within commutable distance to Arlington, VA office and able to work in-person daily.

We are currently searching for a Structural Engineering Intern to join our Federal Buildings team in Arlington, VA, working on projects that enable the heart of our clients’ business.

As an intern with our team you can expect to design everything from new, multi-building complexes to intricate historic structure renovations! We’ll rely on you to support our teams on critical projects while fostering a culture of continuous learning and inclusion. You’ll work alongside professional engineers and designers, gaining exposure to project coordination, relevant computer-assisted engineering software, data collection and more. With mentorship and guidance from our Professional Engineers and technical experts, we will count on you to assist in the performance of structural analysis and design for our projects.

Our North American Internship Program will allow you to engage with interdisciplinary counterparts and senior leadership across all business units and geographies– giving you a chance to network, explore the company, and learn more about our dynamic industry.

To be successful in this position you will need strong communication and interpersonal skills as you work closely with your Structural Lead, Project Managers, Professional Engineers, and Designers across different disciplines. The ideal candidate will exhibit a high level of attention to detail and quality control, being committed to checking their own work and reaching out to peers and seniors for guidance when questions arise.

As part of this team, you will perform increasingly complex calculations and analysis as the structural design is developed and learn to work with our Designers to get the structural requirements communicated on paper and in the model. Your internship will build on your structural coursework, exposing you to multiple subject areas, and learning how structural design integrates with and impacts other disciplines. You will also develop understanding of principles of analysis and design of vertical and lateral structural systems in compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Here's what you'll need

• United States Citizenship, those candidates with CPT work authorization are unable to be considered
• Currently enrolled in a degree seeking program in Civil or Architectural Engineering, with a clear emphasis on Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
• Completion of at least 3 years of collegiate coursework before start of internship
• Working knowledge of MS Office programs, specifically excel
• Live within a commutable distance from our Jacobs office with ability to work in-person daily at our Arlington, VA office

Ideally, you will have

• current enrollment in a MS degree program in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineering
• previous relevant internship experience focused on structural engineering
• experience with software such as AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD, ETABS, RISA, and/or SAP2000

The base salary range for this position is $40,000.00 to $60,000.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
