Job summary

Austal USA is seeking a student engineer to support the Engineering team in Mobile, AL. The role involves basic engineering calculations, maintaining technical documentation, and assisting with CAD mark-ups under supervision.

You will interact with suppliers and internal stakeholders, help with field surveys, and contribute to cost-saving initiatives while developing project and time management skills.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing bachelor degree in Engineering or Naval Architecture.
  • Maintaining a minimum 2.0 overall GPA (4.0 scale).
  • Successful completion of Fourth Semester of the curriculum (latest release).

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic engineering calculations.
  • Creates, changes, or maintains technical documentation for ship design products.
  • Interface with suppliers on engineering specifications/documents inquiries.
  • Evaluate and solve technical issues in product development.
  • Update Purchase Specifications per internal guidance.
  • Update Vendor-Furnished Information per supervisor guidance.
  • Performs 2D CAD red-line mark-ups.
  • Support cost saving activities.
  • Generate reports as required.
  • Interface with internal and external customers on technical matters.
  • Assist in field surveys and field-related tasks for the Field Engineering group.
  • Maintain engineering procedures to meet deliverables (cost, reliability, manufacturability).
