Structural Engineering I
The Structural Engineering I position, located in our headquarters office in downtown Chicago, plays a key role in supporting the planning, design, and analysis of structural systems for a variety of projects, including buildings, infrastructure, and other complex structures. Working under the mentorship and guidance of senior engineers, this role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience across multiple phases of structural engineering projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist with structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures using hand calculations, structural analysis software, and other accepted methods
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to meet project goals
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, and technical reports
- Review requests for engineering services to determine that adequate information is provided to complete service
- Review building/bridge structures and foundations for existing and proposed uses
- Review Quality Assurance (QA) and final review on structural analysis reports
- Generate required engineering reports
- Conduct site visits and assist with field inspections to verify construction compliance
- Answer structure‑related inquiries from internal and external customers
- Keep abreast of new technical methods and development related to structural engineering
- Complete specialized engineering assignments requiring complex calculations
- Ensure accurate project status reporting to facilitate accurate project tracking
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
- 0–2 years of structural engineering drafting experience
- 1 year of experience drafting with AutoCAD or Revit preferred
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification or ability to obtain is preferred
- Knowledge including, but not limited to, the following software systems: Revit, RISA, Tedds, and ETABS
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Fundamental knowledge of structural engineering principles and building materials
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (IBC, ACI, AISC, etc.)
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
