Overview

FSB Architects + Engineers, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design, is seeking an experienced Structural Engineering Director to provide strategic and operational leadership for our structural engineering department in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This full-time, on-site leadership position is accountable for department performance, financial management, staff development, resource planning, project delivery, quality, profitability, and client satisfaction within a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering firm.

The Director of Structural Engineering leads structural engineering managers, oversees workforce planning and resource allocation, strengthens project management and quality processes, and promotes collaboration across architectural studios, engineering departments, market sectors, and offices. This leader develops employees, drives accountability, evaluates operational and financial performance, and implements continuous improvement initiatives that support successful project delivery and department growth.

Bringing strong structural engineering experience and technical judgment, the Director will focus primarily on people leadership, department operations, financial performance, and project delivery. In this highly visible role, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of FSB’s structural engineering department, develop emerging leaders, and influence operational strategy across the firm. You’ll work alongside architecture, engineering, and market leadership to strengthen collaboration and advance consistent, high-quality project delivery.

The structural engineering department supports multidisciplinary building projects across FSB’s primary market sectors, including the aviation, civic, education, federal, commercial, tribal, and mission‑critical markets. The department’s project portfolio includes new construction, renovations, building assessments, complex structural systems, and alternative project delivery methods.

Responsibilities

Structural Engineering People Leadership:

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop structural engineering managers and department leaders.
  • Oversee the department’s recruiting, hiring, onboarding, retention, workforce planning, succession planning, and employee development.
  • Provide direct performance management and career development for assigned direct reports while ensuring consistency in performance management practices across the structural engineering department. Build a collaborative and accountable team culture that supports employee engagement, professional growth, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor staff utilization, workload, capacity, and development needs to maintain a productive and sustainable structural engineering team.

Department Operations & Resource Management:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the structural engineering department within a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering environment.
  • Establish and continuously improve department standards, workflows, and operational processes that increase efficiency, consistency, accountability, and quality.
  • Oversee staffing assignments, workload forecasting, utilization, backlog, and resource allocation across projects, using FTE planning, staffing forecasts, and other operational metrics.
  • Identify operational and project-delivery risks, implement corrective actions, and facilitate coordination among structural engineering, architectural studios, other engineering departments, and market sector leadership.

Project Management & Project Delivery:

  • Monitor department-wide project performance, including scope management, schedules, budgets, staffing, utilization, profitability, design quality, and deliverable coordination.
  • Resolve resource conflicts and operational challenges affecting structural engineering project execution.
  • Support project managers and multidisciplinary design teams with operational guidance on complex projects, coordination, staffing challenges, and project escalations.
  • Promote consistent project delivery and QA/QC practices to maintain strong client relationships and achieve high levels of client satisfaction.

Financial & Business Management:

  • Lead the financial and operational performance of the structural engineering department, overseeing profitability, utilization, backlog, staffing levels, project performance, and revenue forecasting.
  • Analyze operational and financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for department improvement and growth.
  • Develop initiatives that improve profitability, resource management, project delivery, and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in annual business planning, staffing forecasts, strategic planning, and long-term department development.

Executive & Multidisciplinary Leadership:

  • Represent the structural engineering department within firm leadership and serve as an advocate for departmental priorities, resources, and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, market sector principals, architectural studio directors, engineering directors, and other department leaders to align structural engineering resources with firmwide priorities.
  • Provide executive-level insight into department performance, staffing, project delivery, financial health, operational risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead the implementation of firmwide strategies, standards, processes, and organizational initiatives within the structural engineering department.
  • Promote strong working relationships and multidisciplinary collaboration to improve resource planning, project execution, design coordination, client service, and operational excellence.

Structural Engineering Technical Oversight:

  • Maintain sufficient knowledge of structural design, structural analysis, building systems, engineering standards, and applicable building codes to support informed operational and leadership decisions.
  • Provide leadership support for complex structural engineering issues, project escalations, and multidisciplinary design coordination.
  • Promote consistent application of engineering standards, design procedures, quality assurance, and quality control expectations.
  • Support continuous improvement of structural engineering tools, standards, workflows, and design practices.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to obtain registration in Oklahoma within 6 months of employment.
  • 10+ years progressive experience in structural engineering, including at least 5 years of leadership experience of engineering teams, managers, or departments.
  • Experience within an architecture, engineering, construction, or multidisciplinary AEC consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with department operations, workforce planning, resource allocation, project management, and financial performance.
  • Working knowledge of structural design, structural analysis, applicable building codes, engineering standards, and QA/QC processes.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, priorities, teams, and staffing requirements.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, interpersonal, and executive communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Oklahoma Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license.
  • Experience leading a structural engineering department or regional structural engineering practice.
  • Familiarity with Revit, BIM-enabled design workflows, structural engineering analysis software, and project management systems.
  • Experience with multidisciplinary building design and alternative project-delivery methods.
Work Arrangement & Travel
  • This is a full-time, on-site position based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
