Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol, a leader in waterfront infrastructure, seeks an entry-level Structural Engineer to join our Raleigh office. You will contribute to analysis, design, and rehabilitation of waterfront projects under guidance from experienced engineers.

Ideal candidate has a civil engineering degree with structural coursework, up to 2 years of experience, and familiarity with CAD tools and structural analysis software. Travel for project needs may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with structural coursework required.
• Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred.
• 0–2+ years of relevant structural engineering experience; internship or co-op in heavy civil/marine/waterfront preferred.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit or comparable drafting platforms.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, STAAD, or comparable tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis, design, and detailing of concrete, steel, timber, and composite structures.
• Develop design calculations, plans, specifications, quantity take-offs, and construction cost estimates.
• Use structural analysis and modelling software to support evaluations.
• Coordinate designs and drawings with engineers and project teams.
• Assist with site visits, inspections, and related reports.
• Support construction administration by reviewing drawings and submittals.
• Participate in client meetings and develop independent engineering judgment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform structural analysis, design, and detailing of concrete, steel, timber, and composite structures.
• Develop design calculations, plans, specifications, quantity take-offs, and construction cost estimates.
• Use structural analysis and modelling software to support static and dynamic structural evaluations.
• Coordinate structural designs and drawings with engineers, drafters, project managers, and other disciplines.
• Assist with site visits, inspections, condition assessments, and preparation of related reports.
• Support construction administration by reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals.
• Participate in project and client meetings while continuing to develop independent engineering judgment.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred.
• 0–2+ years of relevant structural engineering experience; internship or cooperative education experience in heavy civil, structural, marine, or waterfront design is preferred.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, or comparable drafting platforms.
• Proficiency or working familiarity with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, STAAD, or comparable tools.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
• Availability and willingness to travel occasionally for project and site needs.
