Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large waterfront infrastructure projects and seeks an Entry Level Structural Engineer for Walnut Creek or Oakland. The engineer will contribute to structural calculations, drawings, and specifications, developing ownership of technical tasks under supervision.

You'll work with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and STAAD/SAP, growing independence while supporting design and inspection activities on diverse marine projects. EIT preferred; pre-employment checks apply.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with 0-3 years of experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with 2-4 years of experience, also considered.
• Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation and structural analysis software (STAAD or SAP).

• Assists with structural analysis, design, and detailing for concrete, steel, and timber waterfront structures.
• Assists with preparation of design concepts, specifications, schedules, cost estimates, and quantity takeoffs.
• Performs finite element static and dynamic structural modelling.
• Coordinates plan details with drafting technicians.
• Works closely with other disciplines on multidisciplinary projects.
• Assists with inspection of waterfront structures and preparation of inspection reports.
• Learns Moffatt & Nichol quality and documentation standards.

We are actively looking for an Entry Level Structural Engineer to join our Walnut Creek or Oakland office. The Structural Engineer is a developing individual contributor who supports the design and analysis of waterfront and marine infrastructure with growing independence, contributing to structural calculations, drawings, and specifications across a range of marine project types. Working under general supervision, the role begins to take ownership of defined technical tasks, including finite element structural modeling and inspection or rehabilitation assessment support.

Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with 0-3 years of experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required with 2-4 years of experience, also considered
• Working knowledge of structural engineering, including design and detailing for concrete, steel, and timber waterfront structures.
• Ability to perform finite element static and dynamic structural modeling; understanding of waterfront structural systems, material performance, and rehabilitation considerations.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, structural analysis software such as STAAD or SAP, and Microsoft Office required
• EIT certification preferred.
• Growing understanding of applicable structural design codes and standards.
• All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working Conditions:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.

Base Salary Range:

$38.00 to $48.00 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California market.
