Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol in Raleigh, NC is looking for an entry-level Structural Engineer to join our waterfront team. You will work with a collaborative group on the analysis, design, and rehabilitation of structural and waterfront infrastructure projects, under the guidance of experienced engineers.

The role offers opportunities to build technical expertise and to travel occasionally for project needs, with a focus on learning and developing independent engineering judgment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with structural engineering coursework is required.
  • Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred.
  • 0–2+ years of relevant structural engineering experience; internship or cooperative education in heavy civil, structural, marine, or waterfront design is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, or comparable drafting platforms.
  • Proficiency or working familiarity with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, STAAD, or comparable tools.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Availability and willingness to travel occasionally for project and site needs.
  • Background check and legal eligibility to work in the U.S. (NIST 800-171) required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis, design, and detailing of concrete, steel, timber, and composite structures.
  • Develop design calculations, plans, specifications, quantity take-offs, and construction cost estimates.
  • Use structural analysis and modelling software to support static and dynamic structural evaluations.
  • Coordinate structural designs and drawings with engineers, drafters, project managers, and other disciplines.
  • Assist with site visits, inspections, condition assessments, and preparation of related reports.
  • Support construction administration by reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals.
  • Participate in project and client meetings while continuing to develop independent engineering judgment.

Physical Requirements:
