Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an entry‑level to early-career Civil Engineer focused on waterfront structural projects. You will contribute to design across container shipping, defense, and marinas, performing analysis and detailing for concrete, steel, and timber structures.

Responsibilities include developing SAP2000 models, preparing calculations, coordinating drawings, and supporting site visits and construction administration.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering with structural coursework required.
• MS in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis strongly preferred.
• Entry level to 2+ years of experience.
• Internship or coop in heavy civil, structural, or marine/waterfront design preferred.
• Engineer In Training certification.
• TWIC credential eligibility.

• Performs structural analysis, design, and detailing of concrete, steel, and timber structures.
• Analyzes static and dynamic loading on marine structures including soil-structure interaction.
• Develops finite element models using SAP2000 or similar.
• Prepares calculations and documents for completed designs.
• Coordinates structural drawings with engineers and drafters.
• Performs site visits and condition assessment reports.
• Supports construction administration including shop drawings, RFIs, submittals.
• Assists with quantity takeoffs for construction cost estimating.
• Learns through meetings with clients and project teams.

Job description

• Participates in the conceptual development and design of waterfront structural projects across various industries including container shipping, defense, bulk material handling, oil and gas, and marinas
• Performs structural analysis, design, and detailing of concrete, steel, and timber structures
• Analyzes static and dynamic loading on laterally performing structures, including the impact of soil-structure interaction
• Develops finite element models of marine structures using software such as SAP2000 or similar
• Prepares calculations and documents information for completed designs
• Coordinates and develops structural drawings with engineers and drafters
• Performs site visits and inspections of existing structures to evaluate existing conditions and prepares condition assessment reports
• Assists with construction administration including periodic site visits and review of shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals
• Supports quantity takeoffs for construction cost estimating
• Learns by attending and participating in meetings and conference calls with clients and project team members

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with Structural coursework
• Master of Science in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis strongly preferred
• Entry level to 2+ years of experience
• Previous experience or internship/cooperative education in heavy civil, structural, or marine/waterfront design is strongly preferred
• Engineer In Training certification
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or a comparable drafting platform
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as SAP2000 or a comparable equivalent
• Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
