Job summary

JobTailor is seeking a Civil Engineer with a structural emphasis to lead analysis, design, and review of bridges, docks, and waterfront facilities in Alaska. You will prepare construction drawings in AutoCAD and Revit, conduct inspections, and deliver technical reports with actionable recommendations. Mentoring junior staff and collaborating across disciplines are key parts of the role.

Required are a B.S. in Civil Engineering (ABET), a P.E.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis from an ABET-accredited program.
  • P.E. licensure or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • 4+ years of experience in structural analysis and design for buildings and waterfront structures.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software and AutoCAD; Revit a plus.

Job description

  • Lead and assist in the analysis, design, and review of various building, bridge, waterfront, and other industrial structures, including: Vehicle and pedestrian bridges, gangways and trestles, marine terminals, docks, harbors, and marinas, buildings constructed of wood, steel, concrete and masonry, towers for communication infrastructure and other unique purposes.
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed construction drawings using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Conduct and manage inspections and condition assessments of existing structures, producing thorough technical reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on complex projects, including site‑civil design, surveying, geotechnical engineering and permitting, as well as outside architectural and mechanical/electrical/plumbing firms.
  • Contribute to project management, client communication, and proposal preparation to support business development.
Requirements
  • A bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis from an ABET‑accredited institution (M.S. preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • At least 4 years of experience in structural analysis and design, ideally with buildings and/or waterfront structures.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., RISA 3D, SAP) and AutoCAD.
  • Revit experience a plus.
  • A strong understanding of structural loads, load paths, relevant design codes/standards, and construction practices.
  • Experience with structural steel, concrete, wood, and masonry design.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • A collaborative approach to project work and a desire to mentor junior team members.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for fieldwork and client meetings.
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license, a good driving record, and vehicle insurance.
  • Permanent authorization to work in the United States without need for employer sponsorship.
