Job summary

SKA Consulting Engineers, Inc. in Asheville, NC, seeks a seasoned structural engineer to oversee projects through all design and construction phases, designing and analyzing building structures while coordinating with drafters, designers, and clients.

The ideal candidate holds a PE/SE with 10+ years of experience and proficiency in RISA, RAM, Bluebeam, Revit, and AutoCAD, with expertise across steel, concrete, wood, and masonry systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Structural Engineer (S.E.).
  • 10+ years of experience in structural engineering.
  • Proficiency with software such as RISA, RAM, Bluebeam, Revit, and AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Expertise in structural steel, wood, masonry, light-gauge metal framing, and/or reinforced concrete building design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage structural projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery and high technical standards.
  • Assist in production of structural drawings using drafting/modeling software and collaboration with drafters/designers.
  • Develop innovative design solutions and translate concepts into drawings with attention to detail.
  • Prepare detailed project specifications.
  • Manage project financials including monthly percent-complete reports and pre-billing for invoicing.
  • Review construction documents to ensure accuracy and design compliance.
  • Attend design coordination meetings with team members and clients to ensure alignment.
  • Coordinate site visits, field measurements, data collection, and field reports.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Assist Marketing and Business Development with RFQs, interviews, resume prep and presentations.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior team members and participate in peer reviews.
  • Engage in professional organizations to enhance the firm’s reputation.

Key Responsibilities


  • Project Management: Lead and manage structural projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet high technical standards. Strive to continuously improve technical expertise and project management skills.

  • Design & Drafting: Assist in the production of structural drawings using drafting/modeling software and through direct collaboration with drafters and designers.

  • Creative Problem Solving: Develop innovative solutions, translate concepts into designs, and incorporate feedback effectively. Demonstrate attention to detail and maintain high-quality standards throughout all project phases.

  • Project Specifications: Prepare detailed project specifications.

  • Financial Oversight: Manage project financials, including preparing monthly percent-complete reports, financial projections, and pre-billing for invoicing.

  • Document Review: Participate in the preparation and review of construction documents (e.g., drawings, submittals, geotechnical reports, and proposals) to ensure accuracy and compliance with design requirements.

  • Coordination: Attend design coordination meetings with team members and client representatives to ensure clear communication and alignment.

  • Field Work: Coordinate and assist with site visits, field measurements, data collection, and construction site inspections. Prepare field reports and follow up on observations.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams (drafters, designers, engineers) and external stakeholders (consultants, architects, contractors, clients) to ensure successful project outcomes.

  • Business Development: Collaborate with Marketing and Business Development teams to respond to RFQs, including participation in interviews, resume preparation, and presentations.

  • Team Leadership: Assist in the training, mentoring, and development of junior team members and contribute to peer reviews.

  • Professional Engagement: Actively participate in industry organizations to enhance the firm’s technical reputation and visibility.


Requirements
