Position Summary
The Structural Engineer – Post-Tensioning Specialist (PE) is responsible for providing advanced structural engineering expertise for post-tensioned concrete systems, including new construction, existing structure evaluation, post-tension repair, rehabilitation, modification, and troubleshooting.
This position requires an active Professional Engineer (PE) license and strong technical knowledge of post-tensioning systems, reinforced concrete structures, structural analysis, field investigations, and repair methodologies.
The engineer will provide technical leadership from initial field assessment through engineering analysis, design, repair recommendations, construction support, and project closeout.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and engineering evaluations of post-tensioned and reinforced concrete structures.
- Design, review, and evaluate bonded and unbonded post-tensioning systems.
- Develop engineering solutions for damaged, deteriorated, corroded, broken, or compromised post-tension tendons and associated structural components.
- Perform field inspections and structural condition assessments.
- Evaluate existing structures to determine structural capacity, deficiencies, and required repairs or strengthening.
- Develop repair details, calculations, specifications, sketches, and engineering reports.
- Review construction drawings, shop drawings, structural plans, and post-tension layouts.
- Provide engineering support for tendon repairs, stressing operations, detensioning, slab modifications, penetrations, concrete restoration, and structural strengthening.
- Evaluate proposed concrete cutting, coring, drilling, and modifications in post-tensioned structures.
- Provide technical direction to field personnel, project managers, estimators, and construction teams.
- Coordinate with architects, contractors, owners, consultants, inspectors, and other engineers.
- Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and ensure work is performed in accordance with approved engineering requirements.
- Review field conditions and develop solutions when unforeseen structural conditions are encountered.
- Prepare and/or review structural calculations and engineering documentation.
- Sign and seal engineering documents when appropriate and within the engineer's area of responsible charge.
- Support estimating and preconstruction teams with technical evaluations, repair scopes, quantities, and constructability recommendations.
- Participate in project meetings and communicate technical findings clearly to both engineering and non-engineering personnel.
- Maintain compliance with applicable building codes, engineering standards, safety requirements, and professional engineering regulations.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers, technicians, drafters, project coordinators, and field personnel.

Responsibilities
- Design and analyze post-tensioned structural systems for buildings and infrastructure projects
- Prepare detailed engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineers to develop effective project solutions
- Review and approve construction documents to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards
- Provide technical guidance and support throughout the construction process
- Participate in project meetings and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams
- Ensure quality control and adherence to project schedules and budgets
Qualifications
- Florida PE license or ability to obtain Florida licensure through endorsement.
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering or related discipline.
- PTI training, certification, or extensive demonstrated experience with post-tensioning systems.
- Experience with structural restoration and repair contractors.
- Experience with parking structures, high-rise buildings, residential towers, commercial buildings, and other post-tensioned concrete structures.
- Experience providing engineering support directly to construction and field operations.
- Knowledge of ACI, PTI, ASCE, IBC/FBC, and other applicable structural standards.
