Job summary

Northrop Grumman's Mission Enabling Products group is hiring a Structural Engineer at either Goleta, CA or Oxnard, CA. The role focuses on static and dynamic structural analyses of spacecraft systems, with ownership from concept through design and testing.

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Structural Engineer - Level 3 or Level 4 to join our MEP Team. This position can be located in either Goleta, CA or Oxnard, CA.

This position can be filled at a level 2 or level 3.

Overview

Reporting to the Structural Engineering Manager, the Structural Engineer will be responsible for performing design analysis and testing of one or more of the spacecraft systems of subsystems. You will have ownership of your work from the concept creation through the design and analysis phases and may also participate in the manufacturing, testing, and integration of the systems.

Role And Responsibilities
  • Perform static and dynamic structural analyses, review requirements for materials, structure systems & subsystems.
  • Document test plans and procedure requirements.
  • Participate and present in internal and external (customer) design reviews.
  • Strive for the highest possible structural performance that is also cost effective and assures complete reliability.
  • Manage and track multiple priorities while maintaining a focus towards common project goals of the program team, matrix organization, and customers.
Basic Qualifications Or Level 3
  • Bachelor\'s degree in STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 5 years engineering experience in finite element analysis and closed-form analysis
  • Demonstrated experience with FEA analysis, ie: NASTRAN, for structural analysis of designs
  • Experience with spacecraft/aerospace materials in metals, adhesives, thermoplastics, etc.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical system design
  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentorship to engineers
  • US Citizenship is required
Basic Qualifications Or Level 4
  • Bachelor\'s degree in STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 9 years engineering experience in finite element analysis and closed-form analysis
  • Demonstrated experience with FEA analysis, ie: NASTRAN, for structural analysis of designs
  • Experience with spacecraft/aerospace materials in metals, adhesives, thermoplastics, etc.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical system design
  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentorship to engineers
  • US Citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master\'s degree in a STEM discipline
  • Experience with structures and mechanisms for moving mechanical assemblies such as solar arrays, booms, and other support structures and mechanisms for satellite subsystems
  • 4 or more years of direct Structural Engineering experience, preferably in the spacecraft or aerospace industry, with significant project ownership
  • Detailed mechanical design knowledge of structures, mechanisms, release and drive actuators, and material selection
  • Working knowledge of applicable manufacturing processes such as machining, finishing, and rapid prototyping
  • Problem solving skills with hands-on project experience
  • Self-motivated with excellent technical communication skills

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate\'s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
