Job summary

Lake Superior Consulting, LLC seeks a Structural Engineer IV in Duluth to lead complex engineering projects within our Facilities Engineering group. The role emphasizes ownership of designs, mentoring junior staff, and collaboration across disciplines to deliver safe, practical solutions.

The position requires 5+ years of structural engineering experience, ABET-accredited degree, and PE preferred with EIT required.

Qualifications

• :Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from ABET-accredited university.
• :5+ years of structural engineering experience.
• :Professional Engineer (PE) preferred; Engineer-in-Training (EIT) required.
• :Knowledge of design codes (ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318).
• :Experience leading design teams and coordinating multi-disciplinary projects.

Responsibilities

• :Perform structural design and analysis calculations per codes and standards.
• :Provide leadership to junior engineers and guide tasks.
• :Lead multi-disciplinary project teams and coordinate responsibilities.
• :Prepare and supervise CAD drawings and sketches for documents.
• :Document design options and rationale for the Engineer of Record.
• :Act as SME in client meetings and site activities as needed.
• :Lead project engineering efforts and manage schedules and budgets.
• :Present technical aspects to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a Structural Engineer IV Duluth to join our growing Facilities Engineering group.

You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, apply advanced technical expertise, and collaborate with engineers and other disciplines to bring challenging designs from concept through completion.

This senior-level role is ideal for an experienced structural engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, leading project teams, and serving as a technical resource and mentor to others. You’ll work on meaningful projects across a variety of industries while helping ensure safe, practical, and high-quality engineering solutions.

Responsibilities:

Perform structural design andanalysiscalculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.

Provide leadership and guidance to more junior engineers while executing a variety of structural engineering tasks.

Capable of working within or leading a multi-disciplinary engineering project team.

Layout and detail entire projects as an Engineer of Record or portions of projects under the supervision of the Engineer of Record

Provide CAD drawings or sketches to incorporate in drawings by Designers/Drafters

Research design options and document findings for Engineer of Record

Assume the lead engineer’s role on assigned projects

Direct and supervise other Designer’s/Drafter’s activities as needed

Attend andparticipatein client meetings as a Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Perform field activities such asobservingand recording existing field conditions,takingand verifying measurements within project area

Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documents

Serve as the project engineer by leading design and engineering effort, and managing proposed schedule and budget throughout each project

Work either independently or closely with others in a team environment on construction plans with clients, architects, and other professionals

Present technical aspects of a project and structural design approach to technical and non-technical individuals

Maintain a comprehensive knowledge and appreciation of all applicable engineering codes and practices

Position Requirements:

Education, Certifications/Licenses, Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Civilor Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university

5+ years’ experience as a structural engineer

PE preferred, EITrequired

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

History of successful completion of projects

Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with others

Preferred experience with engineeringand/design software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks,Civil 3D,RISA, Excel Spreadsheets,BluebeamREVUetc.

Understand 2-D and 3-D drafting techniques

Firm knowledge of design codes including: ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, etc.

Physical Requirements and Demands:

The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation. Routinely use standard office equipment such as but not limitedto:computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets. Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, oroperateobjects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee isfrequentlyrequired to stand, talk, and hear.

Standing for extended periods.

Occasionallifting inup to 50lbs.

Exposure to weather including heat and cold climates.

Ability to work long hours and overtime when projectsdemand.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated salary range for this position is$95,000 - $132,800.
