Job summary

Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a Structural Engineer IV in Milwaukee to join our growing Facilities Engineering group. You will lead complex projects, own design tasks from concept through completion, and mentor junior engineers.

This senior role requires strong knowledge of codes (ASCE 7, AISC 360) and proficiency with AutoCAD, Navisworks, Civil 3D, and related tools. The job offers a competitive salary, benefits, and opportunities across Liquids, Power, Mining, and Manufacturing sectors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a structural engineer.
  • PE preferred, EIT required.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities: History of successful completion of projects.
  • Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with others.
  • Preferred experience with engineering/design software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, Civil 3D, RISA, Excel Spreadsheets, BluebeamREVU etc.
  • Understand 2-D and 3-D drafting techniques.
  • Firm knowledge of design codes including: ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to junior engineers while executing a variety of structural engineering tasks.
  • Capable of working within or leading a multi-disciplinary engineering project team.
  • Layout and detail entire projects as an Engineer of Record or portions of projects under the supervision of the Engineer of Record.
  • Provide CAD drawings or sketches to incorporate in drawings by Designers/Drafters.
  • Research design options and document findings for Engineer of Record.
  • Lead assigned projects as the lead engineer.
  • Direct and supervise other Designers’/Drafter’s activities as needed.
  • Attend and participate in client meetings as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Perform field activities such as observing and recording existing field conditions, taking and verifying measurements.
  • Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documents.
  • Serve as the project engineer by leading design and engineering effort, and managing proposed schedule and budget.
  • Work independently or with a team on construction plans with clients, architects, and other professionals.
  • Present technical aspects of a project and structural design approach to technical and non-technical individuals.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable engineering codes and practices.

This senior-level role is ideal for an experienced structural engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, leading project teams, and serving as a technical resource and mentor to others. You’ll work on meaningful projects across a variety of industries while helping ensure safe, practical, and high‑quality engineering solutions.

Responsibilities:

Position Requirements:

Education, Certifications/Licenses, Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Civilor Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university

5+ years’ experience as a structural engineer

PE preferred, EITrequired

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with others

Physical Requirements and Demands:

The job requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation. Routinely use standard office equipment such as but not limitedto:computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets. Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, oroperateobjects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee isfrequentlyrequired to stand, talk, and hear.

Standing for extended periods.

Occasionallifting inup to 50lbs.

Exposure to weather including heat and cold climates.

Ability to work long hours and overtime when projectsdemand.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated salary range for this position is$95,000 - $132,800.
