Job summary

Bowman Consulting Group, Ltd. is seeking a Structural Engineer II to join our team remotely. The role focuses on designing and delivering engineering services for transportation, infrastructure, and land development projects.

Collaborative work with senior staff and multi-disciplinary teams is required. The ideal candidate has a civil/structural engineering background, 3+ years of experience, and PE licensure upon availability; SE registration is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering required at time of employment.
  • Three or more (3+) years of engineering experience.
  • PE registrations required upon availability; SE registration or ability to take SE exam within one year preferred.
  • Experience with software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, AASHTOWare, Con/Span, MDX, STAAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient reading construction plans and technical writing.
  • Working knowledge of AASHTO Standard Specifications, AREMA, IDOT Bridge Manual, Tollway Structural Manual, ASCE 7.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design and provide engineering services for transportation, infrastructure, and land development projects.
  • Review plans and prepare technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work.
  • Complete design work using computer aided software.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence concerning project direction.
  • Conduct structural inspections and prepare reports.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Support senior staff with client communication and coordination.

Purpose

Perform the design and provide engineering services as they relate to transportation, infrastructure and land development projects.

Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
  • Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially complex assignments, modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria. Work is completed using advanced engineering techniques and design principles and is reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound professional judgement. Review work produced by junior staff for quality assurance.
At the Operational and Company Level
  • May assist senior level staff or management with clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams on moderately complex project issues.
Do the Work
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on moderately complex projects.
  • Make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work.
  • Complete design work using computer aided software.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects.
  • Ability to perform structural inspections, assessments, and preparation of reports.
  • Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • May assist senior level staff or management with clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams on moderately complex project issues.

Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range is $86,000-$125,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Physical Demands and Working Environment
  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Partially outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
